I have vague childhood memories of seeing a line of Hong Kong made WW2 vehicles and figures in department stores in the mid-70s. They were in Timpo-like window boxes and had one or two Timpo swoppet clones and a tree or fence included per set. There was a Patton tank in grey plastic marketed as a German tank which I think I still have buried in the garage somewhere, but I also recall that they had a very nice (to my 8 year old mind, anyway) SdKfz prime mover. I saw one on eBay in the late 90s but I missed out on it. In the auction, there was a definite manufacturers name listed. As far as I recall, my tanks just says "made in Hong Kong" Does anyone recall this toy and know the name of the maker? I just watched The Dirty Dozen again and thought it might be nice to track down a SdKfz.

Sounds like you are describing the Durham Industries Gray Ghost half track...

I looked up some images and it might have been the Durham Grey Ghost that I recall, but the packaging was different and I could have sworn there were two swoppet clone Germans included. Also one source said the Grey Ghost was of 1964 vintage and the halftrack I saw was in the stores between 73 and 75.

Either I am conflating memories of seeing the Durham Grey Ghost with memories of this other toy line, or the one I recall was a later knockoff of the Durham. The Grey Ghost looks really nice, however. Probably better than the one I recall, which may have been smaller like the Marx Battleground vehicles. Kind of pricy for a mint one if you can find it. Too bad someone couldn't reissue the Grey Ghost. Thanks Einaroneye, for putting me on the right (half)track!
