Hi.
I'm finally getting around to watching The Pacific series by HBO. I am in awe of what those men went through.

What figures would accurately help someone depict the combat experiences of the Marines?

Thanks,
MikeNick

Mike,

Yes, really a fantastic series!

The best match would be Figarti with their Iwo Jima, bloody Tarawa, and Wake Island sets. Iwo Jima being my favorite. Other companies did a few Pacific WWII sets, but nobody comes close to Figarti for poses and variety.

Even kit figures are somewhat scarce for the Pacific theater. I got this one after watching the series recently. I have not yet started on him so I cannot claim credit for the masterful finish we see on this box art image. :rolleyes2:

Would love to be able to buy more like him eventually. This one seems such a classic image of the USMC in action.

Good luck with your search. :smile2:

Mike,

I would agree that Figarti is your best bet for World War II in the Pacific action poses. That was an incredible series on HBO. Hiriart has one Pacific Theater, more traditional, set in its catalog. It is number 1333 U.S. Army Americal Division in the Philippines with a General MacArthur personality figure.

You might try contacting Stan Clark through the Gettysburg Antique Center. Stan is a former Marine and runs a large toy soldier, book, and print business out of there and will have USMC related TS as well as other items. Stan might have some of the retired King & Country USMC series from WW2. -- Al

Well, in 1/30th K&C dids two series of USMC/Japanese for about the Iwo Jima time period (late 1944-45). Very nice figures but didn't sell all that well so they were limited (and therefore a bit hard to get)

Figarti has doe some nice Marines, and as mentioned above, they have different time periods represented.

I plastic, the TSSD Marines and Japanese are quite good. The can be converted to all kinds of other figures. If you follow some of my plastic conversion threads you can see that I was inspired by the Pelilieu scenes to convert a running mortar crew.

The Old Marx Marines really aren't that bad. Also in plastic there were "US Marines" (actually closer to Army) and Japanese from Airfix.

Over the years there have been a number of unpainted metal figure kits issued.

The BEST USMC figures right now are in 1/35th scale, both resin and plastic kits. Dragon Models (DML) currently makes the only "Guadalcanal vintage" Marines.

So, Marines are out there, just limited by the money you want to spend, or your ability to assemble figures.
