Going to be painting up some Austrians soon but the Austrian uniform is a bit tough to get to look good with the white on white(white uniform white straps) so I was thinking of something like maybe this off white(Games workshop skull white) for the uniform and regular white for the straps??? giving the uniform a dirty campaign look. Looking back at the pictures I think maybe its a bit to off white?
I don,t know??? Maybe just the jacket off white and the pants regular white?
Or maybe the whole uniform white and the straps off white? Or even white on white with gloss white for the straps?
The black outlining of the straps helps but i still think it needs something to break up all the white on white look???

Any suggestions? Have any of you guys painted these and what did you guys do???

These are a couple of quick samples I painted up to see which looks better?

Try a tiny bit of gray into the white.
Use that for your straps.

Tough, as the color will intensify on small objects. I like the off white but lighter than you have it. I wore a British uniform with white facings reenacting and the white was "warmer" looking wool while the white linen vest and breeches were starker white. Maybe doing the clothing in "white" white and doing the folds in light tan or really light gray. I can't see white wool staying super white for long in the field yet the Austrians keep using this color. Maybe they "pipe clayed" stains.

I would be happy with either. The all white one I think is slightly better.
Do you paint the black lines on the straps?
I don't have the patience to do such good work. eyes are beyond me.
