Guys..
Thought this would be interesting to see if anyone knew who said it but, after a little bit more digging I see there is some denials and legal threats about the issue of whether this former UK politician actually said it.
Rather than actually stating it was X and putting myself in the mire or a chance of it I am not now willing to state who it was on a forum with world wide audience for obvious reasons

Google results tend to indicate a WWII German person said this.

As you have googled it you will also see that there are some stating this phrase is actually attributed recently to Obama (dont know the background to why he has been attributed to this comment but its on the web) but, as I said this was allegedly a UK politician in private regarding some events the country had just gone through and are still dealing with
