Just watched another round of ebidding ,and true to previous form , those german cavalry nags romp in at high prices, whereas the SL B015 Patton tank , even though retired can't seem to make 75% of its RRP these days.

Why are these nags fetching high prices (besides the desirability factor - I want some, but haven't been willing to pay the price of 8 to 12 new figures just to get one pony:D horse going for more than elephant:rolleyes:) , were there less of them made , does the horse have gold teeth:p :D

Very interesting question, I was one of the first collectors to sell the "German Calvary" set on ebay. It was sitting in a funny place in my den, and one day I just decided to list them. I believe I got $175-$195 for a few, and $125 for the rest. There was no special interest in them, it was an earlier time when items were simply "retired" and they quickly disapeared.

I remember I was suprised when they became popular and some reached nearly $300 in value......WOW.

I also was an early seller of the now really popular NV series (Normandy Village) and the Roman Fort. To me I just look around the den and say.....okay time for something new.

I remember several years ago I picked up the Winter Tiger, Panther, and several other of the "100 piece sets" they were lots of fun to have, and they looked good in the showcase......but to be honest they were primitive compaired to todays releases.

Who knows why some pieces are more popular then others? Who knows what will be valuable in the future? I have my opinions, but they are based on other collectibles, and King & Country is unique.

I would say, buy what you like, enjoy it, and be glad that should you tire of a piece or two there is a market of folks that might like to have it........there is an army of Beanie Baby Collectors that would love to have that opportunity back!

It has to do with scarcity. The GC 02 is hard to find. I need it but I don't want to pay $271 although that is the going price and the Sherman there are lots of those around.

Well the cost of feed for this quatermaster is too much and he won't be requistioning nags for the troops:rolleyes:
It's not like the horse is a tank or warbird or artillary, must be the most consistently expensive item on the secondary market in terms of it being originally priced at $50 or around the cost of two figures and there's 7 of them:eek:
Wonder is the scarcity a result of popularity hence people are keeping and not selling, or whether it was a relatively limited production run.
They come up only a few time a year.

Did the Beanie Baby market collapse Njja ? Looked it up on ebay out of curiosity and saw 10 bears going for $20:)

Yes the Beanie Baby Market went into total free fall......as do most of the "Collectibles" produced to be "Collectible" I usually only deal in Toys from the 1950'S-1960'S which to me were true "Collectibles" They were made to be used, and few items survived in like new condition......with original boxes.

Starting in the 1970'S with Star Wars figures, Hot Wheels, and the like vast quanities of items were put away in original packaging so the marketplace is a crazy one with items skyrocketing until cases of the item in demand suddenly appear.

I never touch any of these items, because in truth they are neither rare nore valuable. King & Counry is by chance an exception to the rule......however one must excercise caution, because there is no limit to production of both present, and or past items of value. So as many suggest, buy what you like, don't plan on future value, it is not set in stone.

I think the reason that certain K&C items have become extremely expensive in the secondary market is that early on, without intending to limit production, the lack of demand limited production of many K&C items to less than 100 (often less than 20 with wood or resin and metal aircraft and vehicles), and there are enough new collectors who are "completists" to make the prices of these very rare items extremely high on when they come up on e-bay.

I believe the last time I read something from Andy on the forum he mentioned that he has never produced more than 2000 of any one item. Strictly by the numbers that's pretty limited in todays scene, but i think thats secondary to something else...
Do you remember the first time you saw a K&C WWII set? I'll tell you, I had totally stopped toys and models in my teens but here's a man in his 30's and i just had no will power against buying them!
As this was in the 90's and as I discoved Market Garden and then found out what else was out there, I sold off all my baseball memoribilia and had to have it.

Ray,

You are preaching to the choir when it comes to love of K&C products, but I think it is the combination of love and scarcity that drives up prices.

I just put my GC02 on ebay, as I just had to sacrifice a few figures for a new display I'm trying to create. The GC02 was the last of the series I had and was just an oddity.

Andy

Andy good for you, with the hundreds of new releases being now offered every year, I don't know how anyone keeps up. I hope you get a nice price, which allows you to pick up a new set or two.

Speaking of prices, I just totaled up bill to the U.S. Post Office for shipping this month for a handful of items shipped overseas......$282 I'm afraid our government has totally lost its mind.

Our national debt is now approaching 10 trillion, thats $29 thousand + for every man woman and child in the US..........of course 6 Trillion is owed to Social Security Trust Fund......so we had better be aware, that is why they keep talking about doing away with Social Security they want to write off the debt.

What a mess..........just in case you were wondering where the 300 Billion came from for Katrina.
