I understand why collectors check these boards for information about upcoming releases and shows, but I wonder why so many of us feel compelled to post everyday? I'm closing in on a couple thousand posts. There really doesn't seem to be much new to discuss from day-to-day. Many discussions seem repetitive after a while. Poor Brad must think he is in "Groundhog Day." Still, I like participating, but not exactly sure why. I could enjoy the hobby ever bit as much just reading the forum and buying toy soldiers. There seem to be a lot of members who do not post or only do so on occasion. I wonder if they have adopted that philosophy? Maybe I should also ask why some never post.

Because it's nice to communicate with other collectors. This is a running conversation, into which we can all jump, as often or as seldom as we like, according to the mood. That's probably closer to the heart of your question, and the answer is probably very personal, or rather, very specific to each of our personalities. Some people are going to be chattier, some taciturn.

For me, I'm sitting here testing software, and it gets boring, so it's nice to have a bit of a diversion throughout the day.

Prost!

Nothing wrong with it, but I wonder why some collectors rarely or never post. Surely if they read this forum, they must have something to say.
On the other hand and I could be off on this. It seems on weekends there are not as many post. Could it be that people are using their time at work while reading this forum. I know I did.

I find it quite addictive.Despite arguments now and again there does seem to be a community spirit on here and its so good to interact with so many who enjoy the same hobby as myself.I came here in the first place to learn more about K&C and i've got so much more out of it.Dispatches and all the discussions that flow from them are a real highlight for me.In all my years of collecting i'd never experienced the type of communication we have with Andy and K&C on here, after some of the other companies i've dealt with it is very refreshing. On top of all this i've made some very good friends, had a real laugh and learnt so much from so many people.

Doug is of course right in that many conversations do get recycled over and over and the forum does have spells when there seems little going on,however sooner or later another good thread is posted and off we go!.

It's like sitting in a pub or bar (or Gasthaus) for toy soldier collectors, and chatting, just without the beer (or maybe with it, we can't see each other).

Prost!

I post because I'm a very lonely, lonely man.

Seriously, though, I like the idea about being able to communicate with other people who have a similar interest. Out here in the wilds of Nebraska there just aren't a lot of toy soldier buffs, so where else am I going to hear the gossip or trade opinions about the products, about the market, etc.? Shannon, Pete and the Treefrog gang have provided a service far beyond just advertising their wares. They have built a strange and wonderful (accent on the former) little community.

I find the forum very interesting and helpful on collecting vehicles and figures. Not too many people in my area are interested in such things. I have met many nice people on the forum and what's even better is when you meet them at shows. I find reading this forum is a daily ritual. Retired-Don't have a life>:) I learned many things about the hobby and products from the forum.

One thing I don't understand is I have friends that have wonderful collections and very knowledgeable on figures and they never post anything. I hope the forum continues to grow. Leadmen

It would be interesting to read what the non-posters think but then again we wouldn't know because they don't post. Every now and then we get a poster who says he's been reading for a year or two and then continues his first post.

From a sometimes poster, but never a caller. I post occasionally in the hopes that someday I will surpass the rank of sargent major, or, if I have something to say, or news to relate.

I have become an occasional poster at Treefrog. I do check in everyday to see what is new, but more to look at the cool dio photos. I have learned you have to be extremely careful the way you say something, it can be immediately taking out of context. This forum is a K&C Club, the majority of the post deal with K&C. I myself don't collect metal, but I find myself fascinated by the different metal companies and their poses. I wish they all would do their metal in plastic. This is a hobby, so as far as I'm concern, your never wrong about your opinion. I look on here to get and exchange ideas of what looks good, or how to make something. I stay out of the politics of these are better than these. We all have different taste, but the over all knowledge on this forum, is what keeps bringing me back. Don't forget, things happen in each of our families. We should just try to keep our opinions positive, but their is nothing wrong with constructive criticism.

When I joined a couple of years ago, I would have definately agreed. It was 90% K&C, 10% everyone / everything else. I think now we have a far greater spread of interests on this forum. Yes, I would agree K&C get more airtime than other manufacturers, but I would suggest nowhere near as much as they used to. I think things have changed slowly as new manufacturers have entered the scene, or brushed up their marketing and quality.

I'm also with you on the plastic front. It would be great if manufacturers could chuck some plastic in the molds once in a while.

Reasons I post? Apart from using the forum to communicate subliminal messages to 'the others', this is such a niche hobby, that fellow collectors are few and far bewtween. To be able to communicate with like minded big kids, from across the globe, is too good an oportunity to miss. I've gotten to speak to and meet some great people because of this forum.

I post:
1. If I have an opinion on a particular piece / figure, that I believe merits discussion
2. If I have a query regarding a particular piece or figure
3. To tap in to some of the expertise and knowledge on this forum
4. To perhaps offer guidance, thoughts and musings myself, so that others might benefit from my mistakes and successes (all relative of course)
5. To communicate with manufacturers, designers, sculpters and suppliers
6. To show appreciation for the hard work and skill others display
7. To try and track down the last remaining pot of green paint
8. If someone has left themselves wide open for a p*ss take, and nobody is stepping up to 'the platter' ;)
9. To discuss anything to do with British comedy or cuisine
10. To relay my apreciation for the oportunity to do numbers 1 through 9.

That's why I post . . . I guess I just like B.S.ing with you guys . . . :) . . . but I prefer Scotch or Irish Whiskey;)

I generally post to ask questions about a product or to comment on people's work or their collection when they post pictures (mainly to show my apprectiation). There are some posts I would like to comment on but refrain as I would like to keep my membership on the forum :D:D

Hi Gary,

I think you ask an incredibly interesting question. And,...I believe it is one that requries a great deal of thought. I also think the answer to your question is a moving target and is in a constant state of evolution. Let me explain.

As you know, I live in Kansas, so my contact with other collectors is as limited as yours in Nebraska. This isolation, combined with a desire/need to become more knowledgeble about our hobby, is the initial reason I joined the forum. So far, this original need has been greatly satistied.

Once I became comfortable posting, I discovered many wonderful collectors who offered me very warm friendships. The desire to interact with my friends became an additional reason for my posting. The forum interaction with my friends evolved into more personal discussions on the telephone, in private messages, and in e-mails.

Another result of my posting was the evolution of familiarity with a group of collectors that allowed me to identify and to make connections with fellow collectors at toy soldier shows. While this was not a reason I began posting, it soon became a motivation for continuing to post.

Another result of my posting has been a growing familiarity with and comfort with specific dealers and manufacturers. Contact with dealers and manufacturers was not a part of my original motivation to join the forum. However, maintaining contact with these great people has certainly been added to my motivation for posting.

In short, my original motivation to post has expanded into a larger number of reasons for my actions. I suspect this is true for many of us.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi
I don`t post alot.I just like reading what guys have to say.I`ve learned agreat deal from this forum. There`s no one in my area that collects soldiers.
Cheers
Dave

Why to have them deleted of course:eek::D:)

Actually it is nice to have the opportunity to exchange information and

some ideas with others.

I enjoy learning new things, viewing new releases, and ideas for future

releases, along with the projects other people are working on.

Those then insist on "labeling" or inflicting their "rules" on other, completely

independent people do get tiring.

But such is life, you take the good with the bad and move on.:D

It is nice to be able to interact with many interesting people from all

over the world, with a common interest in military miniatures.

Simon, I don't think I could have summed it up any better. Those are all the reasons I come here. Was this question asked before, because you nailed it.

Agree with Wraith 99%. The odd 1% is that it is just not possible for a manufacturer to swop between metal and plastic. Wish it was with the price of metal at the moment. But that apart he has said it all, it is as much about making new friends as anything else.

Interesting!.................it seems that we are on the same wavelength :p

A good summary of why most of us are here.
