why do you collect toy soldiers? (1 Viewer)

I collect because of my life long love of Military History. As a boy I collected Airfix soldiers, built their Spits and Me109's,collected Commando War comics,Action men and watched the classic War films on tv.We played War in the woods near where we lived and pretended we were in those films.

This passion for the subject stayed with me my whole life, and after collecting different Wars and scales I discovered K&C in London and was hooked.I think I have found my final era and scale, when I stop collecting K&C I will probably stop collecting.

Yep it all springs from a Happy, carefree childhood in those long hot summers.Wonderful memories:)

I thought you were British Rob

Ah okay Rob I understand now :D

Mine stems as an extension from the Britains Farm range that I started collecting in the late 70's, from there it progressed into anything Britains but mainly ceremonial (British Royalty figures, guards etc....) found Treefrog I didn't really have an interest in any of the war figures and I was never really interested in this type of history.
Thanks to the LT I have amassed quite a collection of the AZW. I love this series and it has become my main focus although I have saved a few pennies for my new matte Durbar display. I may have to switch directions though as I need to add some more ceremonial glossies to the display.

Although I never actually purchased any, I loved Britains farm range,as a small kid I wanted to make a farm dio,but never did.Do they still sell that stuff?.

Yeah, although imo it isn't as good as it used to be, they are still having issues under the RC2 banner. I am also a member of a farm forum it pretty big business also, you'd be surprised.

I was brought up in that '25 years after the war period' (Remember 'All our Yesterdays?) when 'the war' was still a daily topic of conversation as it touched all my older relatives. As a kid I played with airfix, liked chess, chess became wargames, all disappeared with work.

Cue Arnhem paratroopers from K&C late 1990's, seen and admired in a way any other toy soldiers I ever saw weren't. But small kids, no cash. 2003, first sets from Mike Neville - Wittman Tiger and Falschirmjagers.

Since then, same as the other guys, guilt free, stress free chill from the daily grind. I love to take pictures of them too, including many others shown on here that I don't actually own myself.

But the very best thing is the friendships struck up through this hobby. For everything else there is b****card, this has been priceless.
