I am a amateur collector. I would like to know things more before I invest my money in. So I want to know how King and Country is better than others like Thomas Gun and Figati Miniatures considering both price and quality :) Thanks for your suggestion in advance :):D

Hello Jjbeau,
First if you search this King and Country forum folder I am sure you will find this topic in dozens of different threads.

*** THERE is NO true answer to this question ***

I would hazard a guess that most collectors have toy soldiers from many different vendors. I have at least three manufacturers that I focus on [K&C, John Jenkins and Frontline] , but K&C is my first choice.

I am sure everyone will have a totally different opinion of why they choose to buy from one company over another ... AND everyone is correct. It is "not correct" to say that any one manufacturer is better than any other. It is just a matter of taste and the ranges that they make; the price that they charge; the scale that you like .... and so much more.

Another word that I will point out is your choice of the word INVEST. As much as I love my hobby, I would hesitate to use the word Invest. Yes, many items, from all manufactures do increase in value, but some do not. You should purchase the items because they are fun and will make your life a little happier but NOT as a investment.

So my take is ... buy from whatever manufacturer you want, get the soldiers that you are interested in and have FUN, FUN and more FUN

To be honest I don't think Kc are better than Figarti or TG to be honest , nothing wrong with Kc and they have the biggest range of items but that just my opinion

Hi Larry,

First of all, I am sorry for the word "invest", I didnt mean for the sake of investment. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I wish to share my collection soon.

Prost!

Hi Brad! I am sorry if my word offends you. Im truly sorry but i didnt mean that way"

I think Brad's having a wry joke there. I think we'd all LOVE to somehow make a living out of our hobby.

As for me - K & C forms about half of my collection. I guess it's the ranges that got me in at the start. Crusades first, then the classic of the toy soldier world - the Napoleonics. I like the style of the figures too. I think also the regular releases. These help keep your enthusiasm for a range bubbling along.

Some figures will most certainly go up in value but that isn't a motivation.

I like K&C for a few reasons:

1. Consistent high quality (materials, paint, and scale)
2. Overall nice design (esp. some of their more recent figures)
3. Wide variety (different themes and pieces)
4. Communication with collectors (Andy and team seem to genuinely listen to fans and are part of the Toy Soldier community)
5. Collector magazines and leaflets (esp. pictures of dioramas and stories about the scenes and pieces)
6. K&C's popularity & reputation (when I think of Toy Soldiers, I think of K&C first)
7. Dispatch news (I've come to really enjoy seeing what each new month offers)

K&C is top notch in my book and Treefrog Treasures is a great place to share your interest in the hobby!

Mate why don't you buy 1 figure of each you are interested in,decide yourself when you see them and flog the others, take a punt mate.

Brad,

I supplement by purchases of K&C by painting for other collectors.... :)

After having spent what we do and many of us having large collections, I would dispute the "amateur" moniker.

Jjbeau,

I vote for King & Country...my reasons are quality, variety and a great owner!

I have no preference for any particular manufacturer. I don't buy vast quantities of K&C. Primarily as WW2 is not an era that interests me from a model perspective. Nor do I buy to invest. Figures to me are like a piece of art. Looking at them gives me hours of enjoyment. I have limited space to display so if there's something that really appeals to me. I'll sell to make the room. As something that's sitting in a box deserves a better home.
