Greetings all,

I've been hearing some dreadful rumors lately. I hope that that is all they are.
Can anyone confirm how Woody and Craig are doing? And for that matter, is there a new location?

I heard a few months ago that it will not be held in Irvine any longer.

On the last West Coast thread, there was discussion about the Show having to be moved.

I hope the Show is not kaput as I was planning to attend my first one in 2017.

Yes, I've also been hearing some tales going around the fireside. Regrettably, I was not able to make it to the Chicago show this year. Does anyone have any news of what Craig and Woody said there about the 2017 show?

Best,

Best,

Woody told me that while he was in Chicago he was informed that one of the hotels he had been negotiating with had sent him an offer/quote for a Westcoaster in late January/early February, 2017. He said that if they couldn't close a deal by the end of October, there would be no Westcoaster this coming year.

Oh dear... Well, let's certainly hope things pull through! My wife has always used the trip as an excuse to visit her California relatives. She will be disappointed to hear this.

I may have to try out the Texas show next year.

In August, I checked out a number of possible venues to see if I could find one that had adequate space (15,000 square feet) for at least 80 vendor tables and was reasonably priced. Most did not pan out, but the Ontario Convention Center did seem to be a good possibility, although the earliest available date was in April. I turned the information over to Craig, but in light of Woody's comments to Louis, the Ontario Convention Center must have not worked out.

Well. It's sad to say that the show, it seems, is kaput.

I just received word this evening from a very reliable source, that they have closed a deal today for the 2017 West Coaster at an Orange County hotel which is part of a national chain. The hotel is not far from Disneyland. Room trading is apparently also part of the deal. I have the date and some other details (e.g., room rates, table prices, etc.), but will let someone officially with the West Coaster make the formal announcement which would be more appropriate than my second hand information. I hope that it is sooner rather than later because time is of the essence.

That is good news because I would like to come out for the West Coaster since I didn't make it to Chicago.

It is good news. I was getting concerned that it might not happen. BTW, don't forget that you have an invitation to view Bob W's collection which is up to 7,000 plus figures here in Southern California and includes more than 300 Pings, dozens of Lucotte sets, a Beau Geste 12 elephant Delhi Durbar display, and very rare, large scale, pre-war Dresden Napoleonic porcelain figures among other things.

Mike, I look forward to seeing Bob's and yours. I will have to figure out a place to stay as my sister has sold the place in Laguna Niguel.

If I am correct, the hotel in question would be just fine. The room rate is reasonable. I'll check for you to see if they have a shuttle from John Wayne Airport. If not, you might have to rent a car.

We'd probably stay in Laguna or Dana Point just because we like the area (I like the beaches, even just walking them), plus we may want to do some house looking in areas like Aliso Viejo.

I certainly do hope this is the case. All the whispers at the last show had me ready for the worst. I wonder if any young blood or new entrepreneurs will consider purchasing the West Coaster for future years?

Also, I'm not sure if anybody knows, but there is a Facebook page for the Show. A few months back Craig's son Andy recommended that I look at the West Coaster Facebook page. According to Andy, the Facebook page has been functioning as the de-facto website for the WestCoaster. If there would be any official announcement regarding the show, that is the first place that it would go up I'll wager.

As a last resort, a couple of us were giving it serious consideration if there was not going to be a show next year, although none of us would be considered young blood by anyone's standard.

My son and his family lived in Aliso Viejo until they moved to Laguna Niguel about five years ago. My wife and I pick up our eight year old granddaughter after school every Thursday (a short day) in Laguna Nigel. However, no beaches for us. It is Toy R Us, Target for toys and clothes, a toy store and See's Candy at the Mission Viejo Mall, and Rita's Ice for Italian ices and gelato.

The hotel in question does not have an airport shuttle, but includes a Disneyland shuttle, self parking, etc. as part of an $18 per day resort fee. I hope that Woody got them to waive that for us.

Haha. That is comforting to know that there are those who are considering it, should it come to that. It's even better if they're seasoned veterans who know their stuff.
