Whatever happened to William King Military Miniatures and Martin Tabony? In my mind, he made some of the nicest figures available in recent years. I've several of his figures and would like to pick up some castings of his Scottish Rifles. I know that he still sculpts, but whatever happened to WKMM? Does anyone know if the castings are made by someone else?

I'm pretty sure that Tabony still sculpts for the Irish Toy Soldier Museum. Here's their link:

Sam Watson is a wonderful fellow, you may see him here at some of the shows.

Toy Soldier & Model Figure has some William King for sale, too, at this page:

https://www.ashdown.co.uk/tgp/eden/britshop.asp

I wonder if that line might be limited now to its affiliation with TS&MF?

If you look under the bases they say "copyright Martin Tabony" my range was sold through the magazine for a time but they were always my figures.

Martin . . . Are you still producing figures and, if so, for whom? Still have a number of your castings . . . unfortunate;y, they're not my period of interest (WW1).

Yes I still make figures, I would make figures wether I made money or not!

Contact Ken Jackson at Maison Militaire about WW1

There are a couple of Martin's efforts on ebay right now.

Baring in mind that I'm still have these figures available, it was the conection to the magazine that was limited (and complicated, but that's another story) I have a copy of the original catalogue proofs so I have a look for the original prices. I only know how many were made for the magazine, I don't know how many they sold!

Hi Martin,
I recently bought a load of Napoleonic French infantry, Scots Greys and Dragoons from someone on eBay which I believe you produced a few years ago under the Heritage brand name. I think that's correct anyway.
I really like these figures. They really do have a character of their own.

Having read your latest posting I read through some of the previous postings on here and then I realised the amount of other Napoleonic soldiers that you have produced over the years.

Is there any chance that you could provide a list of the lines you have produced for William King or Heritage or is there a website somewhere that lists these. Some pictures would be great.

The Maison Militaire website doesn't have them listed.

Also if you could let us know what you lines you can still produce.

Thanks and regards
Paul

I know the Maison Militaire web site is taking it's time but Ken has most of my stuff so you could e-mail him and I'm sure Rosemary (his wife) would send some lists.
Off the top of my head there's,
"The Square of the 27th Inniskillings at Waterloo", this consits of 157 figures all with variations and a currassier breaking in, that can be suplied with a number of scenic bases. There are currassiers and carabiniers to attack the square.
"Ewart's Eagle" This is the Scots Greys attacking the 45th line infantry, it has 14 mounted and 21 foot figures.
"The Gate at Hougomont" with 20 Coldstream Guard defenders and 30 variouse French infantry attackers.
There's other add on sets etc. but I can't remember them all at the moment.

Thanks for the reply Martin. I didn't realise that the Hougoumont soldiers were still available. I remember seeing a picture of the diorama somewhere but I can't find it now. Probably in a magazine.
I may buy some more of the French 45th infantry to go with the ones I have and ask if Rosemary could send me some pictures of the Hougoumont soldiers.
If there are any other Treefrog members that have pictures of Martin's work I would appreciate it if you could send me some copies by PM or post them on Treefrog.
Thanks and regards

Martin,
Thanks for the info. Please let me know what you find in your catalogue. Thanks. Lawrence

Those sets are all connossseur matt sets, so I painted them! Most of the gloss sets were painted by someone else but I painted all of the matt sets.
The Royal Scots colour party is the most interesting though. I only supplied a few sets (less than five) before I had the "difference of opinion" with the magazine.
I do still have the moulds to all this stuff though.(and a lot more). I've found the proof copy of the catalogue but it won't fit my scanner! I'll keep looking for the catalogue.

Martin

Would that someone would pick them up! I have a few Scottish Rifles and would like more. Wonderful figures! I do have a couple of unpainted Irish Guards as well . . . must get tto them some day.

I don't know what you mean by "pick them up" The "William King" figures were simply my figures in different boxes. If you look under the bases you'll see they say "copywright Martin Tabony".
If you want more let me know, I don't sell casting though, that caused problems!

Martin

To clarify my statement: hopefully, someone will continue manufacturing your figures as I could use a few more Scottish Rifles. As to the Irish Guards, I have several band figures that look similar to your's; I had presumed you made. Perhaps old MM(MMM?) figures.
