Here is a little display I'm putting together in a hutch that sits atop my desk where I do my figure painting and dio building. The snow is just batting and the figures are plastic Conte Waffen SS that I painted. the tanks are of course FOV.

Very nice display. I love the Conte German's you've painted.
And I just know this is going to seem like a stoopid question, and it's probably the language barrier, but what is "batting"...??? Is it some kind of cotton wool...??? Whatever - it's very effective.

Cheers

My wife's hobby is sewing and "batting" is what she calls it. This is very inexpensive and is some kind of polyester. It is what you put inside quilts and whatnot to make them thick. The trees I bought on sale at Michael's (a large craft store chain) after Christmas clearence. They were for those Christmas village scenes I think.

Thanks. Sounds like it's a "kind of" cotton wool then.

Cool paint job on the figures. Never thought about having them painted up as winter troops. Nicely done.

You will after you see the dio I will be working on. Conte and TSSD!

Captain, It is good to see someone else playing with their FOV stuff. Nice pieces. Can you giv us a close up of the painted figures? Have you done any of the TSSD figures! They really are nice. I like the hard plastic better than the soft Conte stuff. Though I do have both.;)

Thank you Gentlemen. You have but to ask oh Kilted one of the night;

KV, I forgot to answer your question. No, I dont have any TSSD. Actually all I have in plastic 1/32 is Conte and some ACW Imex artillery. I havent been doing 1/32 but for a few months. In fact I've only taken up this hobby less than a year ago.

I think you will like the TSSD figures. They take paint pretty well and have great detail. A bit chunkier like K&C . I think Shannon has them in their store. Is this not a great hobby! I am still pretty knew and having a blast. Will you try and make Chicago?

No, I dont have the money for Chicago. I do good to get to the show in Annandale Va. which is just 4 hrs. away from me.

Well I am sorry to hear that you will not be able to attend. Hope the show in Annandale is fruitful for you!

I have some of my friends on the prowl at various Target stores looking for discounted Tanks.

Well, for someone who's only been in this hobby for about a year, I reckon your paintjobs are amazing Captan Sir. Wish I could get similar results.

That show is very fruitful for FOVs. There is a guy there that sells them NIB at greatly reduced prices then, if you buy three or more he knocks 30% off the total. He only works two shows and probably had 200 at the last show. I bought three and my buddy bought 5 I think it was. He doesnt have a card or website he just works those two shows and I dont know what the other show is. He had retired stuff as well as brand new.
So you are going to make the journey to the windy city? have you been before?

Thank you for the very kind compliment Harry. It is something I have wanted to do for a very long time but just never got around to it. I have really enjoyed it since starting and hope to continue it for many many years. i think it's the acrylic paints that I like so much. If I had to use those nasty enamels I'm sure I would have quit already. I love those acrylics.

Same here. I use acrylics for my diorama bases and the effects you can achieve with various densities of colour washes continue to blow me away. I'm very happy with the way I can combine very disparate colours to come up with a convincing (to me anyway) base. Just wish I could get similar good results with figures as well. Still, I guess practice might improve matters. Just need to create that practice time I suppose.

I think the time thing is another great advantage of acrylics. They clean up instantly so when ever I have 15 minutes I can go put a little paint on some boots or base or whatever stir the brush in some water and wipe it off and done.

Been to Chicago(the city) a handful of times. The show only once. I love a good deal. Might have to work something out on FOV stuff.
