Wish Me Luck..... (1 Viewer)

I must be old, I liked the Moody Blues,Simon and Garfunkel, David Gates, and Elton John. Also I loved jazz and classical as a kid.......I must of been a  nerd....Michael

Michael,

I love the Moody Blues, Simon and Garfunkel (saw Paul Simon live) and Elton John (saw him live as well). I also love Jazz. My best friend Billy is a Jazz Tuba player, and I have gone to the Blue Note to see such fantastic acts as John Fadden and the Dizzie Gillespie Allstars. Finally, I got hooked on both classical music and opera by Loony Toons as a kid, and have been into both ever since. So I don't know how old you are, but if you are a nerd, so am I (but then again, we are all History Geeks).

Tim,

Glad to see that you have an appreciation for jazz. Wish many others were like you. Also glad to see that you like Wes and Grant, especially Grant as he's one of my favorites. If you don't have it, I can recommend the four cd retrospective Blue Note (the label on which he did most of his output) did a few years back. I can probably burn it if you'd like. Wes is similarly amazing but different.

Brad i,ve got about 6 or 7 of the grant green discs, and a few more that my friend taped for me, Great suff!
I,ve got most of the wes montgomery stuff he,s my favorite of the jazz guitar players and its amazing that he played all those lines with just his thumb. I hear some of the other jazz guitar players would try and catch his thumb in the car door when they would hang out together!:p
The earlier stuff was the good stuff, before they had him doing all of the lame pop songs of the day and taking him out of his element, A lot of those latter albums sucked. The stuff with jimmy smith was real good also.

I could never play any of that jazz stuff on guitar being a hard rocker but can understand what goes into playing it and can really appreciate the talent that those guys have and the years of study they went through to get there. I spent many years studying guitar and music theory but never got a handle of the jazz stuff, Its one thing to learn the scales and chords, theory, ect., but another to actually put it all together and make it swing.
I also tried my hand at some classical guitar and had some better luck with that having learned many pieces but I was no segovia thats for sure!!!:p

I love music, mostly rock classic rock. I grew up on the Beatles then Zep into Aerosmith, Skynyrd, Deep Purple, Tull, Foghat, love Southern rock, Stones, I find myself listen and watching all the old 50 do wops, and the scary thing is, I know all the words and songs. I know all the 60 and 70 bands. Everything I do, is with rock channels on. I play a mean air guitar, and can't sing a lick. The best concert I ever went to was, Summer Jam 80, Eagles, Heart and The Little River Band. I only crank up the volume now for certain songs, on warm summer days. If the music ever went dead while I was in the middle of converting, I would probaly cut myself. I also like solo artist like Buffet,Croce, Taylor,Denver,Cash,Dylan,Joel,John,so many more. So my music covers a wide range of decades. I think I stopped enjoying the newer bands around 2000 or 01. There seems to be to much gang rap, and solo girl band and boy band today. I have my taste in music, and so does everyone else. To me The Beatle will always be my favorite rock band. Rock On, Mike.:)
