Hi all,

Just noticed a few fellows had posted about new orders to be had and hoping the good wife is ok with it?? So how's your better half with your collections?? My wonderful significant other I guess " tolerates" but also likes the hobby overall, I guess her biggest complaint is the surprise payment comes due without knowing ;) I sometimes am forgetful^&grin but other then keeping to my soldier room she's a pretty good sport, of course her sister and friends think I'm nuts for buying "toy" soldiers, she tries to explain the fun and why I like it, but to most it falls on deaf ears, so at least she tries for the most part to understand, and always have a blast at Xmas time with her secret Santa soldier order, got to love her!!!!...Sammy

Well, mine seems pretty good about it so far as long as it stays under the radar somewhat. Though, now that we are talking about kids i think it will get more and more pressure. Also, we have some agreement that if it comes down to kids college tuition or toy soldiers, the toy soldiers will have to start turning into tuition payments.

By under the radar I mean that most of my collection is not immediately visible in the house. I dont have a toy soldier room unless you include the attic where I have two tables setup with diorama-esque displays. I also have small collections on a couple of shelves in my office/closet/dressing room/storage room. So, much of my toy soldier collection is somewhat in the closet! {sm3}

As a crafty person (and architect) herself, she is very supportive of the dioramas I made for my nephews and niece about Normandy, Desert Storm (where my brother-in-law/their dad) was a Corpsman and the Middle Ages. She even helped with the Desert Storm diorama which she enjoyed and I think really helped her connect to my hobby.

I might broach the subject of turning them into gifts as well. I have not gone that far.

No problem with mine whatsoever. My wife buys more things for me relating to toy soldiers than I do for myself. I actually have to reign here in as she sees things and just buys them regardless.

Worst was the auctions K&C used to have!! Talk about auction rage

My wife doesn't mind me collecting toy soldiers , she has known about it from the beginning...She has even gone with me to the Panzermuseum in Munster , the german naval memorial in Kiel & the Chicago Toy Soldier Show in 2013...
However , I realize when I order I got to even the balance so to speak...The last couple months I picked up K&C Jagdpanther , two TGM Hetzer's , TCS Hetzer-Winter , a Pipeline SS moto-dispatch...
This in turn cost me a new chas lounge couch , a new 50" LED TV , a Blu-Ray player & season 3 of Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray...That left me enough wiggle room to order the new K&C 35t & K&C tank commander set 2...
I don't always have to Even the Balance so to speak...i guess it only fair...

It helps to have a room set aside somewhere for your collection that your wife doesn't often visit. That probably goes for a lot of things, though, and not just toy soldiers! I was recently cautioned that places like the living room are not appropriate for hockey pucks.

My present wife stays out of my room,,,enough said...the garage also

When we were first dating, I took my wife to my apartment (where every flat surface was covered with toy soldiers) and told her this is the baggage that come with me if we get serious. She said she didn't know about my choice of hobby, so I replied, "all men have hobbies, and a lot of them involve drinking, gambling and sex . . . toy soldiers does not." She said, "I can live with that," and she has ever since.:wink2:

I have dozens of packages and hundreds of figures delivered to my door here each month, my girlfriend never says a word.

Reason being, they all end up going back out the door, sold to customers, so there you go...................:wink2:

Marc (Beaufighter) got a kick out of this text exchange while I was at the Westcoaster:

Text from me to my wife: (a picture of the 1/18th Easy Rider Huey)

My wife: you better not buy that

Me: Too late

My wife: Couch

Ya' George, so can I blame you for my habit!! {sm2}

Seriously, my secret is to have the wife part of the hobby. She loves to craft scenery; paint diorama items, and help me create and build scenes and the such so she gets into the enjoyment of the hobby.

Also make it easy at Christmas or B'day. I just leave a list "casually" about and my present ends up being "EXACTLY" what I wanted. --- Larry

My wife is aces all the way. Planted the seed for London last year, has become friends with all my collecting buddies. She's my staunchest ally!!
