This is a Wm. Hocker The Princess of Tanjore set(#144).

Have two other Durbar sets coming and will post photos of them on this thread. Am going to eventually display them with a backdrop, etc. but want to post these close-ups(they don’t do the set justice) to highlight how really amazing these figures are.

Hi ROAN,

Congratulations on a very fine purchase! Mr. Hocker's Durbar sets are incredibly beautiful and I think you are so lucky to have some of them. You can gaze at them for hours and still see new details on them. I eagerly await pictures of your final display with the backdrop!

Also, I hope you will post pictures of the other two sets you purchased when they arrive at your address. I will certainly look forward to seeing some more of these great sets.

Thank you so much for posting these pictures. I love Mr. Hocker's work and I think you have made a great purchase!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat,

Thanks for your comments-it’s been a bit chilly here of late and your post warmed things up a bit.:D

I agree and think the direction of my collecting is gradually going to move toward more Wm. Hocker sets. I still love the old Britains and always will-and some of the reasons for this at least for me is epitomized by Hocker’s toy soldiers. I thought about this while recently participating in a Live Auction-people scrambling for boxed, mint Britains sets at outrageous prices-and always only one winner with a lot of disappointed people, am sure.

To just be able to go to Hocker’s site, order what you want, and receive a pristine, mint, tied-in, one of kind set a month or so later evokes memories of birthdays and Christmases of past, all hassle free. And I don’t think his sets are that expensive-esp. given that they already are appreciating. Also, if for some reason he stops producing his toy soldiers I know that I would end up kicking myself for not buying more.

Thanks Geoff for posting the nice Hocker sets. I bought my first Hocker set at the Chicago Show this year and was impressed. I put off buying his figures for years but always looked at them. I bought the KOSB set from Sudan with MG and mule. John

Roan
Thank you for posting those great pictures. I have never bought any WM Hocker figures but I do think they are fantastic.

I have one of his Durbar elephant. Baroda with retainers. They are a great value when you get them at the shows. He lives in Berkely whic is a less than an hour away for me. At the shows he offers a 10 or 15% discount.

K.V.,

I saw the photo of your Baroda set you posted awhile back-very nice. That’s the next set I’d like to get because I don’t have any Durbar elephants and what’s a Durbar procession w/out at least one elephant? I like the Baroda set also because of the included musicians. Have on order the Maharaja of Orcha and the Bikanir State Warriors and if I add to a these some other Hocker Indian Army I have it should make a nice display.

John,

I saw the photos you posted of your KOSB set. This was the first Hocker set I bought and it’s still one of my favorite sets.

Damian,

You’re welcome!

Geoff

Hi ROAN,

I love your Hocker figures! I frequently visit the Hocker website and look longingly at the Imperial Durbar sets. In my opinion, William Hocker is one of the best toymakers in the business. While I own a few of the beautiful Hocker sets, I do not own any of his magnificent Imperial Durbar sets. I keep saying to myself, "Someday, I will have them!" Thanks for sharing the pictures of your collection. In my opinion, you are a very fortunate man to possess those figures in your collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat his Durbar sets are worth every penny. Not to mention a very good value when you consider what you get for the money.

Roan , those sets are the BOMB! Really like the Princess set.

Hi Vamp,

I am well acquainted with the value of Hocker Durbar sets. I agree, what you purchase from William Hocker is well worth what you pay...and more. Considering what you receive, you do obtain a significant value for the money.

My concern lies in the fact that Mr. Hocker's Durbar sets represent the event which took place in 1877. I have been collecting sets depicting the Delhi Durbar of 1903 as presented by W. Britains, Beau Geste, and Marlborough. I know that Hocker Durbar sets and figures can be blended with those representing the Durbar of 1903, but I would prefer to keep the two events separated for purpose of accuracy. Consequently, collecting the Hocker Imperial Durbar sets constitutes an additional or new line within my collection. And,...I am not yet ready to begin collecting an additional line. When my budget allows, I will most certainly begin to add the Hocker Durbar sets to my collection because I consider them to be breathtakingly beautiful and very reasonably priced.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Pat-appreciate the compliment! Hope you will post some photos of your Durbar sets at some point.
