Treefrog is planning to add yet another manufacturer, Woodland Scenics! Their catalog is quite extensive with many railroad scale items. We would like some input from our collectors. If you have found some of their products to be very useful in your diorama making or would like suggest items please let me know.

Hey Mandi,i have used their scatter materials and dry grasses and they are really good,would like to see TF stock these.

Same here, very easy to use and produce quite a realistic effect.

I think they would be a nice addition. I have been looking at their trees and shrubs for a bit now.

A lot of there stuff can be used for any dio you want to make. The ballast stuff works great I have used for ground work.

Now keep in mind that this will compete against BAR and H&A... Then again maybe WS will complement them, who knows?

This raises a good point actually,speaking from a country that has no H&A supplier it would be very useful to order items from all three suppliers in one place.

But Rob, you DO have a H&A supplier for your country--ME!!! :D

I especially like one of WS's products called "Life Like Trees". They seem to be kinda tough to find in my area but are an excellent looking tree that has reallistic leaves and small branches. They are much more realistic than their "tree armatures" that you glue lichen or moss to. I agree their scatter materials are very good and they have snow too.

Since I model small trains in addition to military miniatures I am familiar with many of Woodland Scenics' products. They have quite a range of supplies and materials.

One advantage of WS is cost - they are in mass-market so they will often cost less than the materials for H&A or B-A-R. On the other hand they are often not as "fine" as the other stuff. One can certainly use them together and have great results. WS has trees that are good for "backgrounds" and they have their "premium tree" line that are very fine and look nice in the foreground (but are more pricey). They have all kinds of ground foam products in multiple sizes and colors that are available in various size packages. They make a nice "snow" also.

The only market warning for Treefrog is that in the US the WS line is stocked at Hobby Lobby stores and Hobbytown USA, but a number of Treefrogers don't live near either of those. Many of the WS items are relatively light and ship easily, too.

Good luck on this endeavor,

Gary B.

The trees in this 1/72 scale are the Woodland Scenics "Small" trees. - Good product.

Which ones are the 'life like trees", premium or regular?

Please see;

On the menu select "Products", then click "Trees" and you will see what they have to offer - more than I can describe here. I don't recall a "like-like trees", but there is a company Life-Like Products that was recently purchased by the Walther Model Railroad company - they produced a line of ready made trees, also.
