Dear Matt,

Unfortunately, for better or worse, I don't think we'll be updating the workbench anytime soon. It merely serves to put our sculpts in front of the competition before we can release them.

So it doesn't really gain us anything by showing our figures too soon. I'm sure even our sculptors use figures done by other companies as inspiration, this is commmon, but that doesn't mean we should help other companies by showing our figures before we've released them! So the workbench will most probably continue to languish until we've released everything on it and then *poof* will most likely disappear unfortunately. It's a nice idea, but commercial realities make it a rather naive idea on our part.

Regards,

Matt

I understand your point Matt but do you think that someone copying your sculpt is going to hit into your business.I really don't think so because whoever collects your ranges is going to continue.I really don't think they will buy someone else's product.Maybe a new collector trying to decide what to collect might. Now if someone copying your sculpt just pisses you off now that I understand.Isn't it time for one little tiny hint of your next range

I understand Matt, and it is unfortunate. Deep down I was probably just trying to squeeze in some Napoleonic subjects into the forum. I was being totally selfish and I apologize to the Stalingrad people.
I would like to see the masters of the Brunswickers. It is too bad that you have to play things close to the vest.

You have a point of course in that there might not be a direct financial impact to us. In a small market such as this, however, even one of our ideas benefitting another company could be viewed as hurting us. Either way, it's never good when one of our ideas is released by someone else before we can release it, especially when it's our own fault! Imitation is after all the sincerest form of flattery. :D

As for hints on the new ranges, sorry, nothing to offer at the moment. However, if we did still operate our workbench, it's cup would runneth over. :D

No need to apologize to anyone at all and I definitely see your perspective. For whatever reason, even though we've released far more Napoleonics and that is (and will forever remain) our flagship figure range, our WWII range seems to be much more discussed and for whatever reason is very polarizing on this forum which leads to even more debate.

Your a cruel man Matt.:mad:I understand your point of somebody getting the sculpt out first.I wouldn't be happy either.

I know, I try not to comment on subjects that I don't collect except in a positive manner. Your figures are art and as such, taken with other companies, each artist has their own detractors and defenders.
Since, I have no skill, just appreciation, I can't see the point in criticizing any company. I just spend my limited funds where it makes me happy.

You know Matt I have never thought about the lack of debate over your Napoleonic Range . I think that its just a forgone conclusion that First Legion are making the Best :D:D Gebhard

Which is interesting because I personally think our WWII figures are the best figures we make. Go figure.

I agree - except I would vote for the samurai as a close second. The three thus far released - and the glimpse on your site header - are stunning and I catch myself studying them every day. I only pray that I have zero interest in your new ranges or I may have to build an addition to expand my man cave.

I'll tell you, even an imitation of your sculpt wouldn't prevent me from purchasing yours. I have purchased figures from different manufacturers that look remarkably similiar. Does that prevent me from purchasing the other? Nope. Once you begin collecting a range of any manufacturer, it is difficult not to want the whole range. Call it a disease, but I have to have the lot. I am looking forward to beginning my First Legion Napoleonics in earnest this year (if other collectors on these boards stop taking all my money with their attractive trades!) :)

I am certainly fond of several brands in the Napoleonics range, but that does not detract from my appreciation of your quality and my desire to own BOTH!

Thanks Eric and I do agree with you about the Samurai. However, until we get out the next big Samurai alottment in April I really don't consider it much of a range (YET!). With 16 new figures due out in the release and more sculpts underway, it's finally going to become what we envisioned it to be from the start. Won't be long now!

As for your possible interests in other ranges, time will tell.......Honestly, we have so much new stuff that we're getting ready to announce that you're bound to find something you like. And, if we're doing our jobs correctly, even if you weren't interested in a particular period before, we hope that once you see the new products you and other collectors will just have to have them anyway! :D

... or you could transform it to a showcase of the creation of an existing figure, highlighting and including some of the historic research on the figure. I may point out that Beau Geste does an excellent job of that. I would hate to see the whole WORKBENCH go away.

Oh non! Vous venez de gagné Mats tonnerre! WOW mais je dois dire que Samurai nouveau look GREAT! Je n'ai même pas un intérêt dans cette période, mais me voyais l'achat d'un couple tout comme une étude. WOW

Oh no ! You just stole Mats thunder !!! But WOW !!! I must say the new Samurai look GREAT !! I don't even have an interest in that period but could see myself buying a couple just as a study . WOW . They do look Fantastic !!:D

Looks great, not a new range.16 figures added to range.

I think that as long as you are focused on your own style and maintaining, (if not stretching), your own quality standards, then no one can really steal your thunder. This is particularly true when you have collector's who "get" what you're doing. If, on the other hand, you were competing to sell as many figures as possible to an undiscerning market, I could understand the need to guard ideas.

For what it's worth,

Ron

I agree with you completely mate. But then you probably know that since you were agreeing with me.;) But as the observation I made disappeared I suppose I am left to agreeing with you. Perhaps your observation will also disappear and we will just be left just scratching our heads in collective wonderment. And so it goes.
