John, I'm too old-fashioned a dinosaur to fool with such new-fangled technology like DVR's. I don't watch already played sporting events. It's live or ESPN highlites later on. As to the OT in soccer, someone already mentioned that maybe soccer could take men off the field in OT in order to open up play a little bit. Perhaps sudden death, as well. If those don't work, then go to the penalty kicks but moce the spot back and give the goalie a legitimate chance to stop the ball instead of relying on a fluke, correct guess or a choking shooter. JMO.:wink2: -- Al

Do you mean make it more difficult like the point after touchdown in football or the free throw in basketball or the intentional walk in baseball. ^&grin

They were the best team in the tournament and deserved the win. However, Argentina played them tough and would have been deserving as well. Disappointing for the Albicelestes. However, they had their chances.

A historic Cup for many reasons.

Brad,

You put it perfectly, I make these my words too! Germany began planting this result right after the 2002 World Cup when they lost the final to Brazil, with a methodical, professional and competent work though thoughout all these years. They certainly deserved this harvest!!
I hope Brazil may draw many lessons from Germany and start working with a different mindset for 2018, or most likely we won`t be the only 5 times World Champions anymore...

Guys,

I just want to say that living this WC here in Brazil was beyond fantastic, and it was also great to exchange all these threads with all of you throughout the tournament! Glad to see that amongst my fellow friend collectors there are also some enthusiastic football fans!!

Below some pictures I took Saturday of BrazilxHolland (another, thank God final, humiliation....) in Brasilia:

You got it. The PAT is a waste of time. The 2 point option should be required. Never thought about the intentional walk but the FT in b-ball is kind of like the penalty kick. Games are consistently decided on whether FT's are made or missed. I see your point about the undefended and choke aspect. We can change the world.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

To the victors, go the spoils: Schweinsteiger, Gotze and Klose partying with Rihanna.

Well played Germany, really deserved your victory in the end although Argentina also played well. I've also no doubt Brazil will be back, they are too good a football nation not to. Good to see Netherlands and Germany doing well for Europe.

As for England.............................:redface2::redface2::redface2::redface2:

British sport has suffered bad this year Ashes disaster,, early exit from World cup, no luck at Wimbledon, two of our riders out of Tour de France (although WHAT a brilliant spectacle Yorkshire and York put on for the start, wonderful crowds all the way and such scenery as to rival France, :salute::)

Rob

Good to see you back Rob! As for World Cup performances, Brazil's wasn’t much better, since although we made it to the semi-finals, we lost in a shameful, inexplicable, unheard of 7x1… :redface2::redface2::redface2:
All in all it was a great Cup, wonderful football and fans, with no meaningful incidents! (except for a bite or two…LOL)

Hello Sentaapua

as a fellow forum member I would like to thank you very much for putting up this thread and for your comments - Live from Brazil - during this great WORLD CUP.
I think your country has been a fantastic host and I can ashore you that the media back home in Germany where and still are full of praize for the organisers and the people of Brazil. If I ever felt sorry for not being there where it is all happening than it was surely this time dureing this great football show in your homecountry Brazil. So keep your head up high!

I know it is easy to be cheerful when your hometeam has won a contest like this, but be ashored I am old enough to remember other times of germany' s football history as well. Loosing a semi-final is bitter and no friendly comment will make a real fan feel much better instantly but Brazil will come back in full force and perhaps with even the best of all teams ever once the lessons are learned from this World Cup.
It was a great competition with lots of great teams, exciting matches and a lot of surprises.

I am not to sure and perhaps a bid overenthusiastic but I think we also witnessed the awakening of the new "Soccer-Giant" USA in 2014. The "mood" for the game in the US seems to have improved a lot over the last four years. In case I am proven to be right,- : WELCOME TO THE SHOW

There is allways a reason or two to be sad for not being in Berlin but what I have gathered from a very brief news flash on german TV the "Comeing Home" of the Mannschaft is a real BIG spectacle. It took the convoy 2hours from the Airport to the Brandenburg Gate.
The US-Embassy (located directly by the Brandenburg Gate) have put up a large poster congratulating the german team - nice gesture indeed, so here is my SHOUT, - loud and honestly felt-: "USA hurray hurray".

Now please forgive a german member for feeling good and just being happy. Thank you Sentaapua, thank you Brazil and thank you to all forum members who posted their comments here dureing the last couple of weeks. See you all backe here in four years time. Got to shoot now, special programme on the german TV now ......

Kind regards
Wolfgang

It was really tough for their goal to get called back on the offsides call. But that added to the overall drama of the match. Exciting, as soccer matches go.

Prost!

Wolfgang,

The is nothing to thank me about, I felt that as a Brazilian forum member and football enthusiast I just had to reach out here and exchange views and ideas with my fellow collector friends, that to my surprise showed up in much more numbers and enthusiasm than I expected. Brad for example is certainly as enthusiastic and a real expert on the sport. The Word Cup was a wonderful event that most Brazilians were happy to host. Despite some logistical and infrastructure problems I think that overall the WC was a success, with all visitors being very welcome by locals, who got to know a little bit more of what Brazil has to offer.
You have every reason to feel happy and proud for the German team victory: it was fully deserved! A vast majority of Brazilians also cheered for the German team before and after it defeated Brazil, and the Germans were very friendly toward the country and its people since the beginning of the competition.
The WC ended with an important legacy to the country, which proved it capable of staging big world-class events, and the Olympics in Rio in 2016 will be next. These were unforgettable days of fun, emotion and great football. Now its countdown to Russia in 2018, and you are right, the shock is already turning into action and I hope that lessons hardly learned will have a very positive effect on how the Brazilian team will be groomed for the next World cup. I intend to be there; who knows if you also attend we’ll get to meet there?
Warm regards,
Carlos

Germany won for Germany and Brasil won for the World. Now everyone is looking forward to the Olympic Games in Rio (Brasil) in 2016.

If the WC is any indication, I'm sure Rio will be great and if I'm not mistaken, the first Olympics in Latin America since 1968.

I am of course looking forward to the 2016 Euros, seeing if Spain can defend its title and how Germany will fare. Wonder how that will work with the Olympics as I believe they still play football in the Olympics.
