I collected these cards in 1977. They were only available by mail, you would get one set of cards in the mail every two weeks or so. There were twenty four cards in a packet and in every third packet there was a story booklet. Each card described an event, a person, weapons or just about anything else that happened during WWII.

I have been trying to complete this set for some time. I stopped at set 40 in the 70's, but have been working on completing the set for some time and I am getting close.

Just wondering if anyone else ever collected these cards back in the 70s.

This is a link to website which decribes this set in greater detail.

I've got quite a few of those Brian, they are stored in the plastic tray that you could purchase to keep them in. Shame you are the other side of the pond as I would sell mine

Cheers

Martyn:)

Here are some pictures of the cards and the trays that came with the cards.

Hey Dietz

those bring back some memories alright. I had like a dozen of those cards from the American Revolution. They were real treasures- tons of facts and the artwork (or pictures) were first rate.

I really like these cards, I have been working on them to get a complete set. The pictures ae great and the stories are very informative.
The Personalities cards are interesting because of the dates. I just read one on Rudolf Hess and the story on back still has him alive and imprisioned at Spandau. These were written in 1976.

The weapon cards are my favorite. The write-ups and pictues of the AFVs are great.

If any one is collecting these let me know I have many doubles.

Wow, when I first saw the title of this thread it really brought back memories albeit much further back than the cards you are talking about. I remember back about the early or mid fifties we used to get B/W picture cards from a vending machine at the local candy store. One of those machines where you put a nickle in the slot and pushed it in and when you pulled the slot back out along with it came a, I think, 5 by 7 or so b/w pic of a WW II scene..I remember this machine right next to one which would dispense baseball cards of which the prizes were Mickey Mantel, Ted Williams, and Yogi Bera. Wow, wonder if anyone still has some of those cards.

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone is collecting these and if they are interested in trading or selling any of their cards. I will try to post some of the more interesting cards.

There were series of similar cards, covering many different subjects. I've seen similar card series for zoology, for aviation, and for other history subjects. Very popular, in the age of hard copy.

Prost!

They had sets that covered just about every topic. I only collected the sport ones and WW2 cards.
I remember using these cards to supplement my research papers, it saved some trips to the library.
Researching items is so much easier with the internet.

Does anyone miss the Dewey Decimal System?
