I was just looking at the john jenkins thread about what wwi airplanes they would like made and a bell went off in my head. One of my favorite planes i assembled growing up was the german gotha bomber. I had the kbb box art to look at. My god , to be flying that high over london and standing in an open cuppula in the very front of the plane must have been not only terrifying but also exhilerating.

I know rick is alway looking for some shock and awe and i think if anyone could make this plane and do it right it would be figarti. I loved the he 219 but a gotha would be awesome. Anybody agree?

Certainly would be great to see one done. It would be huge. I have seen models of them and they are superb but, never built one myself. It may even be something JJD may do if figarti don't

i built mine in 7th grade. Took a couple bottles of testors blue paint. I was proud of it. I left it on the fire place to dry. I am eating breakfest and see my 4 yr old sister pick it up and fly it. I choked on my food and couldn't get the words out in time. It didn't fly far before it crashed. Weeks in the making and then kaboom. I have an old aurora one still unbuilt in the box but it is in my complete collection of wwi aurora airplanes.. Anyhow, i think this is definitley a figarti job.

Had my fair share of modelling disasters also. Hope someone makes one it would be something to see in 1/30th

Interesting discussion. I, too, had the Aurora Gotha as a kid. My dad built the first one when I was around 7 and left it in that lovely metallic red it was molded in. I built one years later and painted it in blue, also. Somewhere over the years they both went down in flames. I actually talked with John Jenkins about the possibility of a Gotha and was told that because of size, several issues were in need of being solved and that it was not in current plans. It would, as mentioned, be huge, with a wing span in the 1 yard range. Smaller German bombers were hinted at as a possibility. We shall see. I would love a Gotha but the huge size would really be a problem for me to display and because of the forrest of struts, bracing wires, and many small details this would be a beast to ship safely and, I would think, very expensive to produce, far in excess of any previous aircraft. -- Al

Hi,
Wingnut Wings do a 1/32 scale Gotha G.IV model kit (as well as a load of other WW1 aircraft). Its not cheap at $139 and has a wingspan of 29 inches!!

I've seen these kits before and wish I had the skill to build and paint them. They offer a great variety of planes and area great size. I may pick some up and have someone custom build them for me. My artistic skills unfortunately are very limited.

I agree. Its the rigging that scares me....and my eyesight!
