First Legion has a great range but single figure have slowly reached $79 each and so on
the mounted are almost Russian figures,

most collectors would like these, all their ranges, but cost makes it not possible

Matt if you could somehow keep prices steady or lower would be great, you would sell ten times more.

I collect pre-finished models and the price on those has gone up, also. I believe that the $$$ began to increase 4-5 years ago. At first, it was just five USD, or so. However, the cumulative increases are now in the 60-80 percent range. Everyone that I've spoken to on the industry side attributes this to Chinese labor costs. I hate to be a wet blanket, but I don't think it will get better anytime soon, if ever.

China labour costs may be expected to trend up.... but we never know. Our wages are not exactly going up perpetually, is it?

However, the RMB is at 8-year lows against the US$. It has gone from about 6RMB (mid-2013 highs) to almost 7RMB now against the dollar. That's a decline of almost 17%.

Try the UK where prices between £69 and £75, at today exchange rate it is $85 to $92 per figure. as an example the new Winter Nap [double figure set] in the US it is $150, while in the UK it is equal to $183.

I didn't mind when prices when up on the WW2 Germans, HOWEVER, they faces on some of the newer ones stunk! If prices go up, quality should go up..

This thread reminds me of the discussion about Forces of Valor's restart, and the prices charged for single vehicles. They're in that range, $79 or more. It's interesting to hear comments from collectors, and try to gauge what will happen.

Prost!

As to prices in Great Britain: BREXIT. The Pound lost more than 20% of its value. That is self-inflicted.

Generally, First Legion has dedicated to increasing quality in sculpt and paint job. That comes at a price. And as long as they do not change this business mentality, figures will be ever increasing in quality - and price. FL understands that and therefore created the MB range for those who are unwilling to join FL on this journey of ever increasing quality (and price). So far, it seems to work. But I can afford less figures, that is for sure.

This is the same discussion we had on a thread that Tryfon re-ignited barely two months ago, http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/fo...bout-first-legion-and-whys-so-expensive/page6. See post 59.

Is it really necessary to have another thread regarding the topic in such a short time. Moreover, this is the same person who complained about K & C and Britain's pricing.

The pricing is what it is as the saying goes. I'm starting to look for a new car and there are some cars out that are priced more than what I want to spend. I don't go the dealership and say you should lower the price so I can afford it; I just look elsewhere.

I just checked the price of my car in 2008. It has gone up 20K. Unfortunately most products go up in price due to various reason. (Wages, inflation etc.).

That is a very good point about the Mass Battle Range.
First Legion recognised there is a market out there for toy soldiers with less paint detail at a cheaper price. I don't believe any of the other manufacturers have taken this route.
Once FL start producing a MB Napoleonic range that is when I will become a customer.

I really like the look of the ACW and Zulu War MB ranges and look forward to the day the Naps range is manufactured.

I personally have a limit on what I would pay for a toy soldier regardless of the quality of painting. It's not about what I can afford it's about justifying the outlay on something that just sits on a display shelf amongst hundreds of other similar soldiers.

If First Legion prices were lower I would buy their regular series. The same applies to King and Country. But I know they are out of my league pricewise so I look but I don't buy (unless I find an eBay bargain).
I do buy Williams Britain, John Jenkins, Kronprinz and Thomas Gunn because they are in my price range (at the moment). I know there will come a time (probably when I retire) when they too will be out of reach. So be it. I'll just make my own. I'll have the time then.:)

Unfortunately you can't get everything you want. The trick is to treasure what you already have.
