In the past, Conte has released several sets of figures related to movies such as Beau Geste, Zulu, the Patriot, and several others. Would you be interested if King & Country did the same, putting out supplemental sets of characters from Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, etc to go along with their regular series?

Best Regards,
Mike

Obviously, the copyright would be an issue but I've seen action figures for characters in BOB and SPR, so I'd imagine it would still be workable. Also, if it was cost prohibitive, how did Conte manage to produce their ranges? ^&confuse

I don't how companies manage it so I can't speak for them. With respect to Patton, when it came to the Patton Command Car, DD 22, the Estate of George Patton asked King & Country to cease and desist, which is why the sandbagged Sherman doesn't identify a certain General as Patton. Several years ago the law used to be that survivors of a deceased person had no pecuniary interest in the deceased person's likeness or name. I believe there were efforts made to change that but I don't know if the law was changed.

CS did a Patton set not too long ago. Used his name on it too. But I also don't know what they had to do to get permission. Would be interesting to find out though just out of curiosity.I'm sure Himmler's and other families don't give out permission,at least without being compensated. Anybody out there know how this works?

I read an interesting back story on Conte's release of Vikings on his website. Well worth the read if for no other reason than his copyroght discussion with a movie exec who did not know who Kirk Douglas was.

So how would a Band-of-Brothers figure differ from any figure sculpted to represent the 101st? Or how would a Marine figure be different from any that was in HBO series "Pacific". The movie "Gettysburg" (which is a favorite of many here) can be represented by dozens of ACW sets. Many manufactures do the 20th Maine.

I have the Conte AWI (PAT and REV) sets but I don't really reenact the movie "The Patriot" (Thank Goodness).{sm2}

So my point is what would be a movie or a character that is so unique that the needs to be a special figure? - Larry
{What am I missing} :confused:

Are you suggesting that 'The Patriot' was not an accuarate representation of American History?{sm4}{sm4}

I'd say any movie that a majority of collectors really enjoy/use as inspiration. Movies that come to mind would be The Patriot, Zulu, SPR, BOB, Braveheart, Gladiator, etc. Just add a few recognizable character pieces to the existing K&C series, I think it would be a way to bring in movie fans who may not be exposed to the hobby. I seem to remember that Conte was working out a deal with the movie studios to put flyers in the DVD cases of the movies.

Jack, it is an accurate portrayal of a steaming pile of .....well you get my point :wink2:

As for the original post and speaking only from my personal view I have no interest in film characters myself. I much prefer real commanders and leaders from history as I think they add real interest to the ranges concerned and I hope K&C go on to make many more. I realise that characters from Band of Brothers were of course real fighting heroes but I'd prefer to see them in their real context as opposed to a film/ tv series link ( even though the tv series was superb). As I say just my view.:smile2:

Have to pass on this one I'm afraid!!..As mentioned in a previous thread a TV Series, say Dads Army would be interesting, but how could i see that the GI Figure i am holding is is Clint Eastwood from the film Kellys Heroes???....So not for me!!.

Steve

Will pass.... why I buy KnC is because the figures are historically accurate - not movies

Now, would I do something like that? ......... YES {sm3} I like to dash hopes. I am mean like that.
By the way, there is no Easter Bunny. SEE! Mean! {sm2} :redface2:

Don't get we wrong, the movie, simply as a fun movie was fine, but not one that I would think that I can find much reference to fact.

There are scenes out of the movie that I think would make a great diorama. One of my favorite is when Benjamin (Mel) and fellow patriots pop out of the corn field and ambush the British wagon and troops.

Also the traditional (and absurdly stupid) method of shoulder-to-shoulder firing lines is quite an awesome and colorful scene to build and the movie does give a few good views to mix in.

I'd be interested as, at the least it would provide additional figures for any number of eras/battles. Aside from licensing issues, the trouble is picking a movie that will fly with the public. Most movies mentioned were hits, but any number of recent movies have been duds. Imagine if you'd gone to the expense of bringing out a 'John Carter' line - you'd have a lot of figures gathering dust right now....

Fictional characters from movies based on real events like WW2 as a whole no....i.e Kelly's Heroes no (love the movie) REAL people as in Band of Brothers yes.

Fictional characters from Fictional movies like, Lord of the Rings................possbily....not really toy soldiers in the traditional sense....but would make an impressive collection in 1/30th scale...oops jsut mentioned scale hope that doesn't send this thread into free fall.....just kidding.

IF K&C could make a set of figures from the movie the Magnificnet Seven then at least i'ld be able to give them to Jack for Christmas!!!!

I seem to remember King's X selling several figures based on John Ford's "Cavalry" trilogy, I believe John Wayne's Captain, the Colonel from Fort Apache, and the overweight Sergeant from Fort Apache.

Best Regards,
Mike
