Guys...

The secondary market has been quite important in the hobby and, I have been looking around at some of the prices of retired items (these are from well known stores not e-bay).

I wondered what you thought of these prices are they high low or about right and would you or not pay these prices?? I was quite surprised at the price on some of them as they have dropped in price since I started collecting 1/30th scale in 2000 though, there are sets like arnhem etc that will always command good prices . I have only looked at K&C for now as they are and have been such a major force in the secondary market in this scale

The prices I have found in the UK and the US are as follows:
UK
AK39 TUNISIAN TIGER £295
WSS72 PANTHER £ 260
BBG08 ELEFANT £190
WSS67 KONIGSTIGER £195
WSS 43 SL WITTMANS LAST TIGER £295
WSS 13 HANOMAG (W) £165

US
WSS41 PANZER II $799
WSS71SL WINTER TIGER $1,100
DD30 PREIST $850
EA07 MATILDA $499
LAH36 SIGRUND $600
WSS57 88mm GUN $499

Mitch,

First, Happy New Year to you and yours:)

I assume these are prices that some dealers are currently asking. Would you mind saying who they are. If not, I understand.

The prices strike me as high although I think LAH 36 and the 88 are not terrible. No, I would not buy these items at these prices. I assume that the sellers are operating on the theory "if you don't ask, you don't get."

Cheers,

not with my American Money

or Warren Buffett's

I do not buy on markup- period. What's the point? With the way KC cranks things through on WW2 items, just be patient, you will see it again.

No way. I don't buy overpriced (IMO) retired items at all. Nothing over original retail. -- Al

Jazzeum..

Happy new year to you and your family. Not at all as they are easy to find and this was not a negative thread or a dig at prices just an interest in the ups and downs of the secondary market.

In the UK K&C and treasure bunker and, only one from the US the international toy soldier gallery which, always seems to have lots and lots of disco stuff although I know there are more its always the one that I have looked at.

Interesting that you think its high I actually thought some of these prices were low as compared to two or three years ago. The one I was surprised at when I took the prices last week was the winter tiger at $1,100 which is about, give or take, £850 and had gone up quite a lot as it was $850 then $999

Mitch,

You might be and are probably right about a few years ago. However, nowadays, I think they may be too high unless an item is exceedingly rare.

Cheers for that. I always find stuff like this interesting especially watching the narrowing of gap between primary and secondary markets that has taken place in recent times.

I know the store that has those prices in the US, and those are the same prices he tried to get a year and a half ago. I seems nobody will pay those prices.
