So I found a place finally that sells model paints to repaint those soldiers I found and low and beyold I found 2 of those mounted soldiers for 25 dollars each so yes I made out pretty good getting all 3 for 10 dollars. I came across this fine officer (missing an arm) for 5 dollars so I got him. Now would you paint him? I am debating because the paint looks original however the shape of the said officer is rough with his missing arm. The base says Captain but I cannot decipher the rest. Help me out here brothers and sisters to identify this officer and should I paint him? Any help is appreciated and by the way I start stripping the other 3 today.

Hi Salem - from the slightly fuzzy image - he looks like a British Guardsman - probably Scots Guard - as he doesn't appear to have a plume in his bearskin.

Let me recommend a book to you - that you might find useful. It's really useful for identifying old TS's - and usually quite reasonably priced, when found as a used copy. Illustrations are actual size - so you can directly compare what you've found with pictures.

There's a company in USA who provide spare parts for Britains soldiers as castings. I think it's called "London Bridge" - or something similar ( Check with Brad (The Baron), on the full name - as he will know). I use a British Company for spares myself, as they are closer - but USA will be closer for you ( less postage). You can make your Guardsman an Officer - with a sword at the carry - and add a scabbard to his belt - if you wish - but I think your guy is a Guardsman - so a rifle at the slope in a left arm - would perhaps suit him better.

And yes - I would then re-paint him - as you will have to paint an arm - so why not the complete figure. As he's not a rareity - you won't be spoiling him - he will just look shiny and new ( assuming you want him glossy - as he once was). The book above - if you can find one - will give you a colour guide. (I just looked up UK Amazon - and can find a copy here in the UK for One penny - plus £2.80 postage - so £2.81 in total). Not sure what that is in your currency - but pretty cheap for what you will get.

Best of luck with him - and any further finds - Johnnybach

The book that JB recommends is a good one. Lots of pics and a very useful reference. This is a Britains figure by the way. I would say strip him and repaint him as he is missing an arm. Had he had his arm I would have said leave him as he is.

well hello Salem (and brit farmer)
I was just out in Sarnia today!

You could try to match the new arm, but will probably find you can tell the difference, so you may as well go the whole hog. As a matter of interest, Officers have Gold belts. You can keep him as a Scots Guardsman, or add the plume of your choice, as they say, "Your model - your rules".
Let us see the finished result, and my camera work is worse than yours, although I tend to get better pics outdoors with natural light.
