Could you explain better what troops you are looking for (french, british, russsain, prussain ect. ect.)and what you are planning to do with them. Do they have to be painted, unpainted, gloss, matt????
There are many casting companies that make very detailed figures but most are not that cheap and come unpainted but I have seen sitting drinking and talking figures, sleeping figures, figures with civillians, wounded ect.

http://www.histomin.com/wpline/wpline.htm

Heres a link that has some unpainted castings kits. You can find these figures cheaper if you search around and check places like ebay or do a google search but this site has figures from many different companies and will give you an idea of whats out there.

There are some wounded figures in painted metal by companies like frontline, mulberry and britains and there are more that will be coming out soon. I don,t know quite what your looking for but did you see the new patroit figures that are coming out soon, they have a great figure that is croaching down.
I,m sure there are more figures in gloss also but i,m not really into gloss figures so i,m not familair with whats out in gloss stuff.
I hope this is of some help to you.

If all else fails you can always try and convert and paint some plastic figures.

hello
Thank you for the information. Im very grateful.
Im thinking of a small diorama 1.6 x 1 foot
The figures would be french/french allies sheltering in a corner of a burnt out log cabin in Russia. Kits or painted-matte- would depend on price. I saw some at king and country but they are the wrong scsle ie 1/30. If i recollect correctly ive seen some others that have attached bases to the lying down figures. Id prefer figures that have no bases such as these do. I suppose I could make alterations.

PS anybody used real water in a diorama? If anybody has how was the base and edges waterproofed?

'Get real' to the extreme!

Never tried it, but if the water is going to be in a 'dip' of some sort such as a pond / waterhole, you could experiment by lining the base with a thin layer of silicone sealant. This is commonly available (cheaply) in brown, black as well as clear and white, so you could mix up your colours to taste.

Heres a link that has I think just what you are looking for. The only problem is the sculpting is not on the great side:mad: but this company has retreat from russia french troops and cossacks to go with them and in all the poses you are looking for, even some troops around a camp fire and a figure laying wounded with no base. Scroll through the figures and check out the trooper pulling his horse out of the ice! There is another company that makes napoleonics in a camp type scene dancing and having a good time. I think its made by tradition, I,ll see if I can find you a link.

Heres a link to the tradition figures search this site also they have more retreat from russia stuff also and more napoleonic castings and prepainted figures.
I hope this helps you out!
I linked you to the spoils of war set but some how the link takes you to the main page so look for the set called spoils of war.

Hello
Thanks all for the very helpful info. I found some possible soldiers by Tradition I think theyre in the set called "Retreat from Moscow". Ive bought Traditions 54 mm napoleonics before and they have lots of detail. Ill buy the kits and paint them myself.
Theres a big London show in December so I may take a look there. I live in Bristol 135 miles from London.
Ill check out the silicone etc. waterproofinging.
In the meantime happy toy soldiering.:D
