Hi,
I haven't seen these figures 'in the flesh' so far, but they do look promising.

To anybody that has bought them, can they actually be displayed in a shield wall as mentioned in the description? eg.:

It may be me, but they seem to me to be hand to hand combat poses, not a shield wall per se. I would like to see evidence that they can be displayed as a shield wall before taking the plunge.

Wow those pictures look amazing Pete, where did you see them ?
Could just be another range I'm going to want to collect !

Hi Steve,
Just search on google for 'shield wall'!
I think they're stills from 'The Last Kingdom' but I could be wrong!

Pete

PS That is a Shield Wall!!

Hahaha I need to see an optician, no wonder they looked so amazing !;-)

Hi Steve,
Sorry to flummox you. But you must agree, that is what a shield wall should look like!

Pete

Yes absolutely and hopefully Britains will produce something very similar.

Steve

I received my inventory of the first four figures on Friday. The paint work on these is fantastic. They should be big sellers. I believe the other four Vikings should be going out very soon.

My wife is buying me four of them for Christmas (hopefully they all come in on time)...looking forward to seeing..."In the flesh".

Thanks for pictures...That appears to be a 'shield house'...not just one wall.

I managed to make a quick visit today to the Guards Toy Soldier Shop (Whilst on a Christmas shopping trip to London with my wife.)
I wanted to see if they had the new "Wrath of the Northmen" releases to take a look at - the fact that I'd just watched the last episode of
"The Last Kingdom" last night was purely coincidental.....!

The very pleasant lady behind the counter just so happened to be opening her first delivery of "Wrath of the Northmen" stock.

Own up time - I have not bought any W Britain product for a long time and was not really expecting anything special BUT I came away with
all of the first four releases. If I had not seen them in their boxes I would not have thought them W Britain - they look more "First Legion"
style to me. They are much better than the pics in the catalogue - the colours more subdued, realistic looking and very well painted.
The swords are of a very thin (stainless?) steel, (not too sure about that idea.....but very smart looking indeed. Oh and the shields - lovely job!
(Packed in shiny Red boxes with a window - figure in a bubble pack. Very nice logo.)

To my mind the four make nice complementing sets of two hand to hands - 62100 as a Viking against 62101 as a Saxon. 62102 as a Viking against 62103 as a Saxon
I feel they go very well together.

Will certainly be purchasing the next four............... Thinking maybe a Viking Longship a la the Gunboat in the "War along the Nile" series.......?
may be approaching our shore sometime in the future?

Right; the other four arrived at dealers locations yesterday and today, three more are in the works for January, so contact your favorite dealer to preorder those.................

Hi Roy,

I agree with you, these are amazing pieces and, at the LTSS last week I even told Ken Osen so! (What was I thinking! {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}). They are the best thing (in my opinion) that WB have produced in a long time.

Like you last week, I am headed to London again this week and will call by the Guards shop and take a look, may even buy them there and then (or wait to see what Christmas brings?). This is a series I intend to collect in depth.

I had never considered this period but, also like yourself, I have been watching the Last Kingdom on the BBC and it has been superb entertainment. May even buy the Cornwell books now too as a result.

Well done Ken for a fantastic new range. Credit where credit is due.

Malcolm. :salute::

Curses to all of you. Due to the overall great reviews these figures are receiving I decided to order four of them to see for myself . . . . . so much for self restraint and discipline . . . .

And me!!

I believe my self restraint and discipline just jumped out of the window and is now splattered all over the patio!

Well, true to my word, I went to the Guards shop to purchase the first four and surprise surprise, they had sold out of their inventory!

So today, a phone call to Magpie of Evesham to discuss business and I enquire about the first four and.... Yes, true to my word I have now purchased them and put all future releases on reserve.

Now then Ken, what you going to collect of mine then {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

Great figures that are, in my opinion, a big step up for Britain's.

Malcolm :salute::

I get the sense that a typical Saxons vs. Vikings shield wall would be a standing front rank with out-thrust and interlocking shields. Archery wasn't an major factor in that age, so there wasn't much need for 100% shield coverage for the formation.

I do concur with you on this assumption. Interlocking shield walls would've been the norm for both sides I feel. A considerable hand to hand would follow the collapse of the wall and / or the ground being at stalemate.

Although this will date me somewhat, the first set of metal knights I received was the Britain's Selwyn-Smith "Knights of Agincourt" in the fifties (I still have some of them, although somewhat worse for wear). I have not purchased many Britain's figures for some time.

Today, from Treefrog, I received four of the "Wrath of the Northmen" figures...you are correct "big step up for Britain's".

Thanks so much for your kind comments. I have over a dozen new figures for this range in development at the moment. At our collectors club event in London last week I briefly outlined what was in the works for this range, including a longship and village components.
2016 should be a good year for W.Britain collectors of all interests.
Ken
