Here is my latest repaint. I removed the cupola, notek, and side skirts then made a new hatch for it. Primed and then slapped some paint on.

Alex,

Can you remeber what the cupola was made of? Was it part of the polystone mould or was it a metal 'add on'? Either way, could you let me know how you removed it (without destroying the rest of the turret?

I've got a 'bare' one coming to me, which I managed to pick up cheaply, and would like to do a similar job, and place it back in the hands of it's rightful owners.

It's made of metal and the way I removed it was using a hacksaw and cutting down the middle of the cupola. That left a gap so with some heavy pliers I squeezed the cupola together and worked it till the glue broke off. You will noticed that its a metal insert so it goes in like 10 - 15mm. It took some work.

I've witnessed this type of operation before, first hand, the last time I went to the dentist, so I've got an idea as to what I'm up against.:D:eek: (smilies in that order!)

It should be arriving in the next few days, so if there's a sudden abscence from the forum, I've either hacksawed off one of my fingers, or I'm in hospital having a T-34 turret extracted from my hand.
 
Make sure your insurance coverage is in effect!:D:D

Sounds like quite an operation!:eek:

The re-Russian-ing of the T-34, or having my fingers stitched back on?:confused::p;)

I will do. I was never realy struck on this piece until I saw Alexs creation, and realised that the side skirts and cupola really detracted from the look of the tank. And since I ummed and erred for too long in relation to the T34/85, This is the only T34 left to operate on.

Alex did a great job. He is also very willing to lend advice too.:)
 
When you remove the side skirts you will have to remove some polystone. I did this with a Dremel drill and I didn't remove all of it so I left some so it can be painted as mud.
 
Cheers Alex,

I'll have a little practice a bit further down the side skirts first, to see what sort of mess I can make of it, then attack them neaer the hull.
Looking forward to getting my paws on it. :)
