Yes I am careful, I have been riding now for 40 years got my 1st bike when

I was 17. Most dangerious time is first 6 months because thats how long it

takes you to learn to stop! You ride safely for about 15 minutes.....as soon

as you get comfortable you give it a little gas. Pretty soon you are zipping

along at 50 till someone pulls out in front of you! Wow you grab the front

brake hard and the front end goes down and you think you are going over...

so you release the front brake and stand on the rear one till the rear end

starts to come around!! Talk about being scared!

So you ride safe for the next 15 minutes until the next red light! If you

survive the first year or so you learn to grab the front brake and stand on

the back one and you can stop quicker then a car...but its still a little hair

raising!

I've ridden 40 years with two minor problems.....I got hit by a car that went

through a stop sign about 30 years ago. I was pulling through the gears on

a brand new Honda 360G two blocks from home when an old geezer ran a

stop sign I hit him dead center behind the passenger front wheel and the

Honda went under his car lifting the front tires off the ground! I went over

the handlebars landed on my back on the windshield which threw me forward

and I landed on my feet facing the car. I guess I was in shock cause I

drifted to the sidewalk and put my helmet down and tried to blend into the

crowd. All the neighborhood people came out and started yelling the cycle

rider was under the car! The cops and ambulance came but I said I was ok

and walked home. I told the wife I had been in an acident and she got mad

she thought I had wrecked our car....a corvette. I wound up going to the

hospital but they sent me home told me I was just a little dazed!

Second incident occured the evening Matrix 2 was released. I took the

V-rod up to my local movie theatre, finding a great parking space I decided

to back the V-rod into it and set the alarm. The V-rod has two pipes right

along side your right leg and if you aren't careful! Well backing the bike into

the space I must have pulled it into my leg.

So in I go to the movie theatre, buy my drink & popcorn and find a seat. I'm

sitting there waiting for the movie and it smells like someone is cooking

chicken! I'm looking around and suddenly my eyes are tearing! I look at my

leg and I have a second degree circle on my right calf. Everyone keep looking

around during the movie...they must have figured out the whimpering sound

was part of the backround noise for the movie!

But those two minor incidents certainly don't diminish 40 years of riding fun!

John,
Not a bad record for the number of years you've been riding. Just have to watch out for those nucklelheads out there who drive carelessly and can ruin the day of the most skilled bike rider.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks Rick, I also give a bit of credit to Harley Davidson. I used to ride

Triumph Bonnevilles but people would pull up way to close to see what you

were riding.

Every Harley Dealer across the US has his own shirt so when traveling you

can stop in and pick up a shirt or two to wear when you ride. As a general

rule no one trys to get to close when your on a Harley.....thank goodness.
