Here is a nice two figures set which fits together to make a contest between German and French cuirassiers.

Contact Ken at Maison Millitaire for orders.

These are beautifully done figures. I have one caveat in that I believe the French cuirassier, and the French cavalry in general (cuirassiers, dragoons, hussars, and chasseurs a cheval), wore madder red trousers with a sky blue stripe on the side seam. The trouser models were from 1901, 1905, and a modified 1905/09. At least, that is what they were uniformed in when they went to war in 1914. I wondered about that too.

Martin - thoughts?

Al, you are absolutely right, Bruce based these on my original painting! I haven't a clue why I painted the wrong colour, I've got any amount of good reference. I think I'll just put it down to a "senior moment" :)
I believe the stripe follows the tunic colour, so dark blue for cuirassiers and dragoon, light blue for chassuers a cheval and hussars.

Will the production items have the right color or is this, in fact, the production item?

Also, I'm wondering what is the cost.

Thank you all in advance.

Martin, I would have assumed the same about the trouser stripe color, except the source I used had color photos of original trousers and the stripe is both described and appears to be sky blue for all. It is a small point and probably wouldn't much matter on a 1/30 scale figure, as privates and NCO's had narrow stripes. Officers had wider stripes where the color is obviously a sky blue.
Be all that as it may, the figures look fantastic. I especially liked the helmet detail on the French cuirassier with the red pom. -- Al

The production item will definetely have the right colour! :) We don't mass produce anything. I'll have to ask Ken about the price.

Thanks. I guess it's not something that's coming out for a little while.

All my reference shows dark blue, I'll have to search out that book.

Martin,
The only references I have all show red. The book I referenced is a very large, very comprehensive work consisting of hundreds of b/w period photos and color photos of original equipment and uniforms. It is volume 1 of a 2 volume set covering the French Army of WW1. Volume 1 strictly covers 1914 and the uniforms they went to war in. Volume 2 covers the evolution of uniforms and equipment from later 1914 through 1918. Together they number over 1100 pages. They are very well done, but expensive. The authors are Laurent Mirouze and Stephane Dekerle. The publisher is Verlag Militaria out of Vienna, Austria in 2007 and 08. There is an English and German language edition. The website is www.mlitaria.at -- Al

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Dark blue stripe. The trousers (breaches) themselves should be red. For some reason I painted the original in revers! ^&grin

They are pricey books but they look good.

Understood. It is possible sky blue is a darker blue. There weren't really any definitions given. -- Al

It's ready now! :) (with a change of colour to the breaches)

Martin

Martin,

I didn't see anything on the website. Should I email Ken directly and do you have an email. Also, do you know what the price is?

Thanks.

We often put things up here before the web site. :) I've just spoken to Ken, the price is £110.00. Email Ken to order.
