Hi All,

With the Rommel figure more or less completed, I've decided to refurbish and add further to my modest WWII Personalities collection. To make it unusual, I intend to have these pieces stand in comparison to the other pieces.

For example, only the Josef Stalin figure is kept as it is, in 1/35 scale as he was of short stature. I have consequently tried to redo all the other figures relative to the Stalin figure. Very much a work-in-progress project.

I did some work on these figures with leftover putty.

SS general officer - The lower parts of the coat were filed down to receive a metal sheet to represent overhangs.

Having finalised the major conversions required, I have started to paint in basic undercoat colours to highlight any defects in the deGaulle and Dowding figures as can be seen in the photos. More cleaning up but generally, I am pleased with the overall dimensions.

I rubbed down the offending areas in the uniform for repainting and have started to paint the faces.

Hi All,

I found an old thread of mine featuring Goering. I've decided to improve on this figure as well by changing the pose.

Been busy beavering away at more figures (and new ones as well...). Anyway, I've finished the boots on the German general figure. A coat of black paint was added to check for final shaping. The large photos here help me to identify and correct errors in the sculpting. The next step would be to add a strip of overhang for the trench coat.

I've also started to paint Hugh Dowding. A comparison photo with a 1/35 Goering figure of the same original height shows how much height was needed to convert the 1/35 figure into a 1/32 tall figure of Dowding. Beside elevating the legs and lengthening the neck, one other trick that I used was to build up the shoulders to meet the new height.

I changed the head position, finalised the pose for Goering and resculpted part of his left arm around the elbow. The figure was repainted. I added sheet metal to the coat of the German general. deGaulle was given another basic coat of paint.

I lettered their names on the bases and glossed over all the bases. This consistent basing creates a certain homogeneity to this collection. Rommel and Dowding are the first two figures completed here. This is how you want to tell your kids and unenlightened friends about WWII history...:)

I finished painting the deGaulle figure. I also finished sculpting the fancy boots with spurs for the Goering figure. Now finagling the painting as well.

I finished painting both the Stalin and Goering figures. Now I have 5 completed WWII pieces in this modest collection. More to come.

I picked up the abandoned Churchill 135/ Roco conversion, and decided to increase the height by about 4 mm. So the legs were extended.

I removed the hat and am sculpting Churchill bareheaded. I removed the right hand to better trim down the "fat" on the figure as newsreel war footage shows a trimmer figure. I have actually gone further with this piece than as shown in this picture here and the piece looks promising.

So far, this is the stage I am at. I removed the ears to bulk out the head and lost one. Winnie is flashing his fingers telling me that he needs two ears. 'ear! 'ear!

I've managed to resculpt two new ears for Churchill and promptly broke off one of his fingers. These pics are not meant to be offensive....:):)

Worked a little more on Churchill. Changed the leg position a little and starting to sculpt the trousers and the vest.

Also starting to sculpt Hitler taken from the same Roco 1/35 set. Heavily modified so far.

I added the jacket fronts to the figure. This looks OK so far. It takes a little patience to roll out flat putty and wait for the correct timing before cutting it to shape and fitting it onto the figure.

Trimmed and filed the jacket fronts and sleeve. Then I drilled holes and inserted the hands (Airfix ECW and Nap French hands respectively from the Collector series).

Still on holiday. I sneaked my figures along with me in a small lunchbox along with some tools and putty. I tried to take some pics but can't load these on the forum with my ipad.

Just got back from my driving trip. These are some of the work done during that trip.

Churchill - filled the sleeves with putty and added sleeves. Pocket flaps added. Breast pocket with hanky added. Shoes with soles were modeled.

Hitler - Boots were refined with soles. Tunic and trousers were corrected. Pockets added. The cheeks were made fuller. The right hand was removed and substituted with a different saluting hand. Left hand was made up from a Historex spare.
