I have started a WWll winter tank diorama.I am restricting myself to a round 19" base. Two reasons,it fits well on my desk and it can be rotated for different views.
I want it to be very simple with only the tank on a quiet road heading for an ambush of 1 bazookaman and 1 rifeman on either side of the road. The rifleman hidden in a drainage ditch at the lowest point of the diorama about 3/4" from the bottom. From there the terrain rises up to the road about 2 3/4" from bottom, from there into a hill about 6 3/4" to the top with 3 trees. The bazookaman is hiding on the other side of the road behind hill.

It's going to be small and simple. Something to display my Tiger tank and winter riders. I made some trees today. I found some small twigs in the back yard and bought two sprigs of plastic leaves from a craft store. I will show you them with snow on tomorrow.

I love the way you plan everything out down to the small details. I just grab a piece of foam with no idea of what I,m about to do and just start hacking and see what happens!:p That might explain a lot about how my final product comes out also!:p
Looks great so far,I also liked your alamo diorama!

TIM _THE HACK!!!:p

Although I do plan things out I do make changes along the way. When you start to see it in three dimenson It gives you more ideas. I have already made come changes. I have made the back taller and have inclosed area where the bazookaman will be also the rifleman does'nt look right where I planned to put him. Now he will be on the same side as the other. This foam is very forgiving.

The suspense is killing me! Keep up the great work. I love the play-by-play postings. Perhaps a deep fox-hole with branches over it with a hidden G.I. would work out nicely.

Chuck-I am working with what I have. They are going to have to dook it out by themselves. Improvise.

I have transplanted the tree stump. I cut the top flat as it was too pointed. It does a great job hiding two men as shown. I don't have the new men yet [Patriots 82nd Airborne set ] I am using these as an example.

I am working on the drainage ditch. I will use clear nail polish to cover the blue area. This should work since it is a small area.Warning: Nail polih will eat right through the foam if it is not compleatly sealed.

This is just an example of how the men may be deployed.

Why not use EZ water and not take chance. It's looking good. If you use EZ water some coarse sand adds a great affect. I don't know how it would work with nail polish, I've never used it.

The left side rocky cave like area was not woring for me. It was too dark and too enclosed. I opened it up some and I think I am going to paint it a lighter grey even though alot of it will be covered by snow.

I finished the post fencing. It's a little tight but the tank pushed it's way through.

I gave another coat to the water and added a few grains of sand.

In the rear where the nail polish worked it's way into the seam of the foam I made into a water source.
