YOU ARE INVITED! Weekend of August 4th (1 Viewer)

The answer regarding how you dust the collection is simple---you don't! If you started dusting, by the time you got to the last figures you would have to start all over again. It would be an endless task.

Thanks to Chris for the photos. Steven Chong also took photos which I can't wait to see. I also took several hundred photos, but I am going to use them on "A Collector's story" on Bob Walker for Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine. Besides I am technically challenged and do not know how to post them here or anywhere else for that matter.

We had more than 30 collectors visit Bob's collection over the two days. Most came on Saturday. We plan to do this again next year and tie it in with Bill Cleary's ACW dioramas. Incidently, Bob has a collection of 3,000 figures down here in Southern California, too. He has a amazing reference library of dozens of books, most of which he put together himself using a VERY expensive color copier, of various regiments of the world.

Thank you Mike and Steven. I got there Sunday and after the tour I was ready to move in.:)

That is a totally awesome collection. I had not seen this thread befores so Thanks. Not a stormtrooper or panzer in sight. Interesting
Regards
Damian

Damian,

I am trying to get Jazzeum to help me post my photos, since I am techically challenged. It is an amazing collection. If you ever make it out here to California, I'll make a special arrangement for you to see it if you wish. By the way, your observation was correct. In addition, there is not one K & C figure amoung the 15,000! Imagine that!

Thank you for that kind offer Mike. I have a double reason to visit LA now, Prof Demetriade's at the LA County Trauma Unit and Mr Walker's great collection,
Regards
Damian

Actually, there are two K&C figures among the 15,000 ... two Palio figures.:)

Sorry Steven, I didn't see them. Lets see---2 divided by 15,000 is .00013 percent. I bet you were looking for K & C. What an eagle eye. BTW, are you going to post any of your photos?

Dear Mike,
Been busy but here are the first batch of pictures.:)

This is Bob Walker's Napoleonic Room. The inspiration for the room started when Mr. Walker found some of the same soldier theme wallpaper that he had as a child -- it happened to have Napoleonic scenes. He spent a year trying different painting techniques on the walls and trim to match a picture of Napoleon's sister's room.

No Louis, the chess set is not K&C.

Steven
Thank you very much for posting those pictures. That is a truly wonderful collection.

Here are five photos (I hope) of Bob Walker's collection. I am not sure if I am doing this correctly, but we shall see.

Did you notice the modern helmet collection at the top of the walls and behind the warbirds? Also, the suite of armor is on a stairs landing which has hundreds of knights as "wall paper" and as "ceiling tiles." Bob made all of them himself using his famous copier and a dozen coats of polyurethene. You would swear that they are ceramic tiles.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for posting these pictures of Bob's most incredible collection! The collection is absolutely breathtaking!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I will try to post all 90 pictures I have with a description of each photo, but my wife (who did not know how to post the photos) and I worked on this for hours last night. My photos were way too large and I had to reduce them from 2 MB to 97 KB. I tried Picasa and Kodak Easy Share to no avail. She did it in some round about way by sending an e-mail to my computer.

Hi Mike,

Whatever method your wife used, I am extremely glad it worked. The pictures are incredible! I certainly look forward to seeing the remaining pictures!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I know that other members on the forum use a software called Photo Bucket, but I'm not sure how you get a copy.

Here are five more photos from Bob Walker's collection. They came from his French Room. He also has a smaller Napoleonic Room, a Main Display Room, a Hallway Display, and a Carriage House. Plus, there are figures scattered throughout the house among the books in his library, various mantels and shelves, etc.

Photo One: A general view of one wall with Mignon's Flag Bearers series at the top. Note the ceiling border which is made up of individual French military figures---none are the same. Bob copied and enlarged them from his reference books and made them into a continuous border.

Photo Two: Various Vertunni figures.

Photo Three: Hiriart sets (top shelf from left) two sets each of 1128 Zouaves de Oran and 1171 French Spahis. Bottom shelf has Hiriart set 1093 Garde Republicaine and 1143 French Infantry, 1914.

Photo Four: From the left Hiriart sets 1131 Tirailleurs Algeriens, 1127 Zouaves de Constantine, and 1137 Tirailleurs de Senegal.

Photo Five: A close-up of some of the Mignon Flag Bearer series.
