Now thats a fascinating question......I've always had toy soldiers as far back as I can remember. Earliest memories were of a set of Britains Coldstream Guardsmen resplendent in bearskins and scarlet tunics given to me as a Christmas present. After that I recollect hoardes of Airfix figures in both 1/72 and 1/32 scale and Athena Evzones in ceremonial uniforms. Metal appeared in my early teens when I used to visit a wargames shop near Victoria Station. Although the figures were mostly Minifigs 25mm I bought the odd 54 mm kits when I could afford to. Now I collect anything 18th Century, especially John Jenkins.

Marx, Marx and Marx... don't get me wrong, I collect lots of other makes, too.. As a kid growing up in the states, in addition to the Marx playsets I had, I also had Timmee, Lido, Payton, Auburn, Airfix, etc.. but it was mainly Marx.. and Marx got me back into the hobby as an adult..

As a child of the 50s it was Marx play sets from Sears..............Ft Apache, the Alamo etc.

As a child it was G.I.'s in a bag at the 5&10 and those sets you could order in an ad on the back of comic books. In my 30's it was 25mm wargame figures but my first collectable 54mm was Conte's Lions of the Roundtop by Don Troiani.I ended up getting all of the Conte/Troiani sets.

For a napoleonic collector it has to be...Napoléon from Métal Modèles in France. That's the guy on the horse in the picture below :)
