Let's throw out all the right here, right now stuff and relive your most favorite top 3 sporting moments of all time, all sports included, no exemptions. my thread I go first ha!!

1. the 2001 Baltimore Ravens destroying the N.Y. Giants in super bowl 35!!!!!
2. the 1984 Maryland Terps football team were losing 31-0 at halftime to the U.of Miami Hurricanes and came back in the second half and won the game 42-40, won't ever forget that one!!
3. the 1983 Baltimore Orioles whipping of the Phillies to win the World Series, I think it was 4-0 sweep.

honorable mention the 2001 Maryland Terps beat Indiana in the N.C.A.A. Championship game.

toughtest loss...Baltimore Colts losing in overtime in the playoffs to the Oakland Raiders:mad::mad:..ghost to the post. hard one to forget.

lots of great wins, lots of bad nites of sleeping!!!!...let's here your favorite 3...Sammy

That's a tough one. I assume it doesn't have to be something we actually saw.

Obviously, the Mets winning the World Series in 1986. By the time they win it again, I'll probably be dead and buried :D

Giants winning the last Super Bowl; that was pretty exciting.

NC State defeating Houston in 1983; that was a heck of a moment.

Special mention: I was only 1 at the time but the Giants beating the Dodgers on the Thompson HR was pretty exciting. I still get goose bumps listening to the tapes.

Toughest loss: Easy. Mets blowing Game 4 to the Dodgers in 1988. In the middle innings, Carter was on third base with no one out and didn't score. That cost them. They were probably the best team that year but as was typical with the mid 80s Mets, they rarely got it done.

oh yes, I remember the N.C. State win, Whittenburg and the last second famous lob dunk!! and alas... the Mets self destruct to the Dodgers, just glad I wasn't a Mets fan!!!

Brad, I thought you would have surely put don't the mets over the O's in 1969???

Sammy,
Great thread, here are my top 3 and bottom 3.....

1.) The Red Sox winning the 2004 ALCS after being down 3-0 to the Yankees and then going on to win the World Series for the first time in 86 years.

2.) The Patriots winning Super Bowl 36 20-17 over the Rams as Adam Vinatieri kicked a 48 yard field goal to win the game as time expired.

3.) The Celtics winning the 2007-08 NBA championship over Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and the rest of the LA Lakers.

Bottom 3

1.) Losing the Super Bowl and the perfect season to the Giants. That one will haunt me till the day they drop me in the ground.

2.) Blowing the 1986 World Series to the Mets after being up by two runs with two outs, no one on base and two strikes on the batter. Just unreal, what a choke job.

3.) Michigan and the Fab 5 never winning the NCAA Championship, losing in the finals twice to Duke and North Carolina, the two college basketball teams I hate the most.

I was at the Game and I had a sleepless night :(

Forgot that one but that was a great moment, especially when nobody gave them a chance. I remember some quote from Bud Harrelson after the Os won game one, someone from the Os saying to him something like "you ain't seen nothing yet," and Bud's reaction like, what are you kidding: we haven't gotten started.

I must admit George, the Redsox comeback against the Yanks was a all time favorite as well, but anybody that beats them makes my day!! also even though I'm a A.C.C. diehard, can't stand N.C. or the devils, glad to see my terps beat the living hell out of carolina this year then beat Duke at home a couple weeks ago...Sammy

Great but tough question Sammy. My top 3 would be as follows:

1. 1958 Baltimore Colts win with Johnny U over the Giants in the NFL Championships;

2. 1983 Redskins win over Miami in for first Super Bowl win and their first NFL Championship in 40 years, with the Diesel's "70 Chip" touchdown romp;

3. 1987 Redskins season culminating in the dramatic 2nd quarter comeback to smash the Broncos 42-10 in the Superbowl (as the Sporting News headline read: No Doubt, Blown Out) and starting with an amazing 3 victories using only replacement players.

Close alternates include the 1970 Orioles Series win over the Reds with perhaps the greatest Oriole team ever and the 1983 Orioles series you mentioned, which in fact was won in five games.

Worse 3:

1. Midnight theft of Baltimore Colts by Irsay
2. Purchase of Redskins by Dan Snyder
3. Career ending tackle of Joe Thiesmann

I have been picking up some sports memeorbilia lately and I just recived a beautiful framed picture with the details in the corner of the "greatest game" 1958 Colts, also just bought my certified brick from old Memorial stadium, looking at picking up a set of a row of 3 chairs from the stadium as well, remeber the old wooden yellow seats?? just gotta make sure they are the real deal...Sammy

Sigh. You all have moments of championships.

I am a big fan of the Milwaukee Brewers.

And Minnesota Vikings

And Northwestern Wildcats.

Not a single championship in the bunch! Sadly, all my best moments end in losses.

But, my #1 moment would be the 1996 Rose Bowl. Who would have thought that ANYONE could turn around that program?!

#2 - The Brewers FINALLY making the playoffs a couple years ago. Too many years of being pathetic under Selig!

#3 - The moments just PRIOR to the multiple Vikings' Championship Game losses...

Do I know how to pick teams or what??

Lowlights:

#1 - As a freshman, I was in the Northwestern marching band. I was told about these cool traditions of what we did after we won our football games. That year, we lost them all.

#2 - Two years later, our basketball team became the ONLY Big 10 school to lose ALL their Big 10 games. Every single one.

#3 - Favre's interception in the NFC Championship game (honorable mention to the missed field goal against the Falcons a number of years back).

Pete,

I didn't know you were in Marching Band? What did you play?

#1 - 1985 NBA Championship. Lakers lose the first game to Boston by 34, but come back to beat the Celts for the first time in many, many tries.

#2 - 1974 - USC/ND. SC comes back from 24-0 to beat the Irish 55-24. Anthony Davis plays the game of a lifetime.

#3 - 1988 World Series. One of the worst Dodger's teams to ever win the series. An injured Kirk Gibson hits a two-out, two run HR in the 9th inning to win game one. His only at bat. Orel Hershiser had one of the all-time great pitching seasons that year.

Pete,

I didn't know you were in Marching Band? What did you play?

I played baritone. The Big 10 marching style is a DEFINITE workout!

The best part of the year was playing at halftime of a Bears game on Soldier Field and marching at Wrigley before a NLCS game. I've never felt such good grass as they had there. Problem was, they didn't have seats for us, so we played and went home :(

Top Three Live Events.

1. USC vs. Notre Dame (Push Bush Game) Electric doesn't even begin to describe it. There were 50,000 people at the pep rally on friday before the
game.

2. Kirk Gibson hitting a home run against Oakland in the World Series. We had 4th row seats behind the dugout and the guys in the front wanted to beat the traffic and left. We moved up to there seats. Only in LA!

3. Giants First Superbowl win in Pasadena. Watching old guys from New York with tears of joy was great.

TOP Three TV Events

1. 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team win over the Russians. Enough said.
2. Jets win over the colts in Superbowl III. Started my love for football.
3. Anytime the Yankees win a World Series.

TOP Three Dissappointments

1. Losing 6-0 In the New York City High School Football Championship. I was captain, I'm still not over it.

2. Losing to the University of Pennsylvania for the IVY championship after being down 20 points late in the 4th quarter, then scoring 3 touchdowns and going for 2 and making it to take the lead, Losing the game on a field goal after the ball was moved up after a roughing the kicker penalty on the previous missed attempt. Nightmares.

3. Every time a sports figure has to get on podium and apologize for his actions.

Great question with so many answers. Best: 1- Colts in 1958. 2-Redskins in their first Super Bowl win, with the Riggins run. 3- Tied between U of Maryland's 1971 b-ball win over South Carolina in OT and Duke's 1992 win over Kentucky in the NCAA East Regionals. Maryland erased a 5 point deficit in the last 24 seconds of OT (down 30-25) to win 31-30. Duke won on a last second turn around jumper by Laettner to win at buzzer. Worst- easy. The whole of the 1969 professional (football, baseball, basketball) season. Colts lost the SB III to the Jets; the Orioles lost the World Series to the Mets; the Baltimore Bullets (now the Wash. Wizards) lost playoffs to the NY Knicks. All in all, a terribly disappointing year, (now hate all NY teams except the Yanks:mad:). An honoable mention for worst goes to the Maryland U b-ball loss in 1974 to NC State, 103-100 in OT. This game is still considered an all time great by many.:( -- Al

1. US beating USSR and Finland in 1980 Winter Olympics. I was too young to remember it, but I've watched both games.
2. Devils winning game 7 against the Duckies to win the Cup in 2003. (I was at the game.)
3. Touching the Cup, reading the Cup, lifting the Cup (and not dropping the Cup) over the years. It never gets old. (Does that count as a sporting moment? If not then scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Rockford Construction with my husband getting the shutout. Haha... :D)

(Yes, I do watch other sports from time to time, but on the whole am rather apathetic to the outcome.)

Brad, this has your name all over it. I did it 20 years ago to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the miracle of '69 and had an incredible time. Only Nolan Ryan and one other guy didn't participate. In the final game, Gary Gentry was mowing down everyone and Tom Seaver struck me out with a nasty curve. Fun for all ages.

Yo Troopers, three great ones for you.

1. 1966 England beat Germany in final to win the World Cup, nearly went through the ceiling from a sitting position when the third goal went in.

2. 1984 Torvill & Dean win the Olympic Gold medal for Ice Skating for their routine to Bolero with 12 perfect scores. Man it just made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up watching it. (Unforgettable)

3. 2003 Rugby World Cup Final, Jonny Wilkinson scores with a drop kick goal with only 26 seconds to go to beat the mighty Aussies (sorry Cobbers) what a moment. I bet even Damian enjoyed that:rolleyes:.
Bernard.

1. 2000 Yankees win Subway Series over Mets;
2. 1986-1987 N.Y. Football Giants Win 1st Superbowl over John Elway and the Broncos;
3. 2009 Derek Jeter (my favorite living player) passes Henry Louis "Lou" Gehrig (my favorite player of all time) for the most hits in Yankees history during one of his best ever seasons, where he hit .334, with an on base percentage of .405, he won his 4th Gold Glove, and most importantly to Jeter, he won his 5th World Championship.
