is this a mask made for the tourist trade? did you get the background on it? what it's used for?
 
Nope...this wasn't for tourists. I am actually South African and picked this up way off the tourist path in Natal. I don't really know what this mask was intended for exactly, apparently some traditional practice. What I do know is that is is made from a discarded grain bag streched over a frame and painted.

Apparently if you wear it and chant loudly, you suddenly find toy soldiers available at unbelievably great discounts. :)
