I don't think it's politically incorrect to admire the SS. I just think it's sick.
I'm telling you, the toy soldier hobby has been taken over by a bunch of Nazi admirers. And manufacturers and dealers are profiting off of it. You guys can deny it and say "It's just representing history". But why don't the allies sell as much?

I disagree. Being Jewish, I think its better to remember history for what it was and I mean exactly what it was, not the BS Politically Correct Crap that is taught in school today. Who are you protecting when you do that? All you are doing is creating an uneducated and naieve environment. Sensitivity is ok, but completly ignoring history is crap IMO. I actually own a lot of the German and SS lines. One, even though the entire ideology is reprehensilble, they are part of the hobby and part of history and Two, I like the staff cars themselves, the artillery and the tanks, that simple. The common German soldier was doing what he had been trained to do, as a nation, they followed their leader like sheep, that is the real issue I don't understand. I chalk it up to the fact that as awful as he was, Hitler was a charismatic speaker and leader much like the moron in Iran is today, lot of similarities.

My 2 cents, I just totally disagree with your generalization.

Very interesting points Tom- I thank you for sharing your background with us.

I often feel people today are just generally less trusting than they were back in the 30's, 40's, etc- more jaded if you will. Take us here in the States- we collectively were a pretty trusting group of folks until the events of the 60's. Ever since then, whatever political agendas may have worked on our grandparents tend to be scrutinized somewhat more by people ever since the 60's. I think people look at the Germans of that era and;

1.) Don't fully understand or grasp the ramifications of the global depression and how truly desperate germans were for some real leadership. When no one steps up to the podium, any idiot can get up there- and, there you have it;

2.) I also think people are somewhat guilty of playing Monday morning QB and asking "why didn't such and such do this or why didn't they act out or leave", well, a lot of that is easier said than done. The early years of the nazi regime were quite prosperous for the Germans- in general, when things are going good, people generally don't resist or challenge the assumptions- you and I can fully appreciate that when looking back on the Enron's and failure of Andersen- people were making money hand over fist with that, then BOOM, the bottom drops out and everyone is replacing the cellphone numbers of their stockbrokers with the numbers of good defense counsel and bail bondsmen.

Well said, especially point 2. I've often wondered how people here in the U.S. have forgotton that WWII started long before we decided to become the greatest generation. I'm not belittling anything the U.S. soldiers did or endured but we tend to forget the rest of the world had long been ravaged by war before Pearl Harbor. The Blitz, Nanking etc, absolutely horrible carnage that we seemed okay with until we were attacked. I've seen some people theorize that Roosevelt knew about Pearl Harbor but let it happen to get us in the war, well if thats what it took to get us off our collective butts and fight the horrors of Facism, well so be it.

There is probably plenty of blame to go around for what transpired. As has been pointed out by others you only need to look at the atrocities that go on around the globe today. I often wonder what future generations will say of us:eek:?

Just my 2 cents

As regards who the better fighter was , it should be acknowledged , that some historians think that the war could have lasted a lot longer or even gone the other way without the codebreakers providing ULTRA info , throughout the war.
