I caught this one while working on my soldiers last night. A B-29, Zeros, the "first" atom bomb, English speaking noble Japanese, and flying dinosaurs. Also slight "LL" love interest between two of the the W.A.S.P.S.

I was hoping that the B-29 gets named for one of the W.A.S.P.S. as is planned in the movie, but Col. Tibbets scrapes it off to name it the "Enola ***". It didn't happen in the film. Great 1940s women's makeup and hair, but did the W.A.S.P.S. wear that on duty?

Fun dog fights with the W.A.S.P.S. flying Zeros against flying dinosaurs.

It was an awful, awful movie.

To be fair, I enjoy a lot of the really bad movies Sci-Fi shows. Sci-Fi has taken the place of all of the local UHF stations when we were growing up (if you're in your late 30s through late 40s, like me-43). In my case, it was Channel 17 in Philadelphia, which showed monster movies Saturday afternoons, hosted by Dr Shock. He was made up like some kind of macabre undertaker, and he did bad card tricks and told old vaudeville jokes after the commercial breaks. (Remember Joe Flaherty as Count Floyd on SCTV? Same thing.) But that was where I saw monster movies, from sci-fi to horror, from classics like "Dracula" and "Frankenstein", to "Godzilla", to "Them!" (giant ants?!) and "The Gila Monster". Much of it was cheesy, but it was great fun for me back then.

Sci-Fi has recaptured that, with the movies it produces, with bad writing, bad special effects, low budgets (every Army team that fights raptors these days is armed with Yugoslav weapons, because a lot of these movies are filmed there, it's cheaper). But even taking these things into consideration, I couldn't stomach "Warbirds". I thought putting a crew of Wasp's on the plane was hokey, really more of an excuse to give actresses a job (just like every commando team in every one of these CGI straight to video movies has a hard-as-nails female member. Or Coolio). Your point about the makeup is a good one, too. They looked like Zippo ad illustrations, not women doing a physically demanding job at 30,000 feet. And there's no way a flesh-and-blood creature is going to dive on a Zero, slice the fighter in half, and come away unscathed. Sure, the Zero was lightly armored, but at that point, disbelief was suspended so far as to snap its supporting cables. Same thing at the end, where another of the beasts punctures the bomb bay doors with its head, for a climactic battle with the male lead. It's skull would have been fractured to the point that it would have been hors de combat.

But all that aside, I did have a question for anyone else who saw the movie, and saw the CGI B-29. It looked like the aft dorsal turret was too far aft on the plane's fuselage. Did anyone else get that impression? It looked like it was installed just fore of the leading edge of the elevators, on the taper of the aft part of the fuselage. My memory of the plane (from the old Monogram model) is that the turret was further forward, where the bottom of the fuselage is still parallel to the top, before the upward taper. I also thought the interior seemed relatively roomy and well-lit, compared with images I've seen of the interiors of the Superfort. I haven't gone to any aircraft sites yet to look this up, but seeing Scott's post reminds me that I thought of that during the movie.

I can enjoy the Sabretooth movies, and "Basilisk", and the Dinocroc movies. Even Sci-Fi's monster montior movies are enjoyable, because they're so cheesy, you can laugh all the way through. But this one was pretty lame.

Old Married Guys don't have exciting Saturday nights anymore.

Sci-Fi Channel seems to be going down the list of monsters, Ogre, Gargoyles, Basilisk, and ancient Heros, Hercules, Odyseus, Sigfried, and Beowuf. I fell alseep before the ending of Rock Monster, filmed in "Lower Slobovia", which had the monster from Galaxy Quest, the sword from King Arthur, the has-been Soviet General. Some Soviet weapons
and a tank were used but I'm not up on them.

I was hoping for one swimming scene in Warbirds, but the writers must have worried that WW II vets or surviving W.A.S.P.s would be offended at the objectification of these heroic women.

I didn't see how they explained the US 2 1/2 ton truck in mint condition on the Japanese held island. Kind of a stretch that it's captured from 1941.

I hope that me posting this movie is of interest because of the WW II theme. They also had the SS monster and Nazi gargolyes repeat films on too.
 
How bout the one before it with exploding Nazi Gargoyles, everybody has different taste, unfortunately for me they fall in the "Unwatchable" catagory.
On the other hand, the History channels Battle 360 series on Big "E" is pretty well done.

Sci-Fi channel makes some very good mini-series but their original movies leave a lot to be desired.They are basically the same,humans fighting dinosaurs,aliens ancient gods,geneticially made creatures that always escape.Just change the time, geography,the costumes and they are all the same.

i caught the middle of the movie,after reading the info thought ,ah man this might be a cool movie....not!! i could only take about ten minutes and it was back to ghost hunters, recorded of course...sammy
 
It's a good Sci-Fi Saturday if I tune it around 10 in the morning and see one of the raptor movies. Then it's a good bet that they're going to run their "Carnosaur" ring all day, maybe with "Pterodactyl" and "Dinocroc" thrown in.

And who would want to miss the Sasquatch movies, too. Lance Henricksen rules!
 
I'm surprised the History Channel passed on this one with their recent trend toward UFOs, Big Foot and Loch Ness.

one of the best movies shown on scifi channel has to be "Dog Soldiers".. it was origionally released in UK theaters before finding its way to scifi. modern english army squad runs in a clan of werewoves in the scottish country side. good story line, great weapons, good effects... worth a look

Oustanding film! And there are some brilliant one liners in it. It's a must watch.
 
I rented it from Netflix. A really good premise with a reference to Rourke's Drift.
 
'Dog Soldiers', now we're talking good movies, it's right up there with 'Predator' imo.
