Continuing to ride the Napoleonic discussions on the Treefrog Forum, I thought we'd take a moment to announce and show the first paint masters of our British Guard Infantry Elite company. These aren't on our website yet and have yet to run in ads at all, so this is something of a world premier of them.

Shown below are only 9 of the 14 figures that make up this highly anticipated release from First Legion. These figures are due out towards the end of September, early October.

Now, as you can see, we've now announced all the way up to NAP0071 and then today NAP0081-NAP0094...so, the question is what is NAP0072-NAP0080? Hrmmmmmm...equally important, where do we go from here.......?

Thanks for looking and be sure to visit our website to keep up to date with First Legion Napoleonic releases!

Best,

Matt

WOW, those are impressive. It will be really nice to have some Brits. I look forward eagarly to seeing these up for order.;):D

Matt,

Very impressive! You sold me! I expecially like the facial expressions, looks like an angry bunch.

OMG!!!!! I am sold Matt. Fantastic figures! These exceed my own expectations based on the French line infantry. Great work!

Am I dreaming or are the bases of the new British figures narrower?

That is my biggest complaint, that the ones with square bases don’t allow you to set the figures close enough to each other. It doesn’t look like a line of battle with each figure two feet (in their scale) apart from the men on his left and right.

I hope all future figures will have these narrower bases.

These look really nice. It will be awfully tempting to get these guys. Thanks for the photos, Matt. Also looking forward to some color photos of that British artillery set (unless they've already been posted somewhere and I missed them).

Oh well it looks like my future plans have changed. What's the regiment anyone?

The tunic lace appears to be in singles, so I'm guessing these are the First Foot Guards (Grenadiers).

These are museum pieces for sure! I think they are top-notch paint jobs. Thanks for posting them. Mike

Alas, it's funny that when we decided to leave this regiment on the smaller rectangle bases for the exact reason that we want to be able to really pack them in into a square or battleline, I actually thought of you and smirked a bit thinking of the moment when I would see this post!

So, yes, the British Guards bases are narrower. No, not all future releases will be like this. We'll see how it goes as well as see how well the different sets accomodate various base sizes. The problem with the narrower bases is that in many cases, the figures have an arm or other part sticking off and it won't allow them to be in base to base contact, which is our goal for the figures (i'm anal like that!).

So rather than ruin the moment by getting into a long protracted debate about your desire to pack them in and my OCD based need to have all figures in a release be on the same sized base, let's just enjoy that as far as the british guards are concerned, we're in total harmony with one another!. :D

All in good fun!

Matt

Matt its seams as if your dead set on these square bases! But how about at least tapering them off on the edges so you don,t see the black paint and they blend into a diorama better? I,m not crazy about the square bases but this would at least make them a little less noticible and a bit easier to hide in a diorama.
Incredible figures by the way!!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Hrmm...tapering the edges might be an interesting idea, let me give that some thought. How about if we painted the edges brown similar to the tops of the bases? Would that help?

Anyone Want To Buy My K&C Sets???? Maybe big bases aren't bad since these are so lifelike...its nice for once to be able to appreciate individual figures..Truthfullt I love them just as they are...

Fish,
Regarding the bases; while I understand they are not what you are used to, what I and several customers like about them is when you do a display and line the figures up, they look awesome all in a row, the bases kind of blend together if that makes sense to you.

I understand this probably does not suit you as you do huge battle layouts, but if you saw the Old Guard all in a row in a display, I think you'd change your mind.

The issue now is the Bavarians and French have the square bases and future releases would not match up with different bases..........

Get the Dremel tool out and start shaving metal.....That is what I would probably end up doing, if I bought these...Michael

I certainly understand the value in a static display but if you like to arrange them in different battle derived positions, large or small, the square bases can be a bit inconvenient since they require more spacing to vary the front view of the adjoining figures but this is certainly not impossible to deal with. I would prefer rounded bases and now the British are more narrow rectangles so to me the matching is not much of an issue. There are so nice that it won't limit my selections but if I had my choice in order I would pick:
1) round / oval
2) more narrow rectangles
3) squares with rounded corners

I don't collect Napoleanics but your figures are great. If you ever do French and Indian War you will have a new customer.
