First Legion British Guard - World Premier (2 Viewers)

Since K&C made the heavy cavalry, CS and FL also made them. I am actually hoping to see other French cavalry, like the Polish Lancers or the Hussars (preferably 5th). The heavy cavalry was used as shock troops (so I heard). The real fighters were the lancers and the light cavalry.
Well from what Matt has said in various threads here about them doing many cavalry releases, I don't think any of us will be disappointed in the coming year.;):D

No worries, we'll branch out a bit and provide things that aren't currently available elsewhere. Patience is the key here. Would I could share with you all that we have coming...

As for the cavalry, you have it both right and wrong. Yes, the heavy cavalry were shock troops, but this in and of itself made them the "real fighters." Heavy cavalry was battlefield cavalry and as such did the majority of the fighting on the Napoleonic battlefield. Yes, light cavalry fought as well, but usually in a diffrerent capacity. The light cavalry was typically the vanguard of the army on the move, providing it's eyes and ears, and was used most effectively in the pursuit after a victory had been won or to cover the retreat of a defeated army and other various screening operations. So, though light cavalry did fight on the battlefield and were most certainly a more flexible force than the heavy cavalry, on the grand tactical battlefield itself the heavy cavalry were the "fighters".

Well that First Legion square demonstrated has 2 rows of 2 deep plus 4 corner men or 68 total, which at the current $40 figure would be around $2720 plus the 3 command and color figures which would be another $135 or so. Maybe we could get a square discount.;):D

Thanks for the clarification Fub, I had forgotten the Big Brother moniker. Yes they look too good to pass up and they are what drew me to this line originally. Many good options for sure.

I would say that's a pretty good estimate (though final price on these hasn't been set yet), though you are leaving out the mounted colonel and the fact that we now have two standard bearers! :D

See the image below for the square with the second standard and the mounted colonel integrated.

:D Well we certainly wouldn't want to forget those; the mounted colonel does look great in the square. I was waiting to see him join his unit.:D:cool:

"I just found this thread and went back to First Legions site to see the British. I must say that is some Square! Looks to be 80 + figures. I need at least one square!
Will save my pennies for these as well as a Squadrons worth of Big Brothers!
Top notch all the way.FUB"

I like the way you think Scott, keep those positive vibes coming, Matt and I say thanks................

After having missed release date after release date, we're missing yet another one on the British Guards. Interestingly enough, this time we're missing it by moving it up a full month!!! :D

Though I'm hesitant to fully commit to this given my vacation schedule back to the US for Christmas, it looks like the figures will be complete in mid-december thus having the pre-order start then with the ship date to cutomers in early-mid-January (i.e. our pre-orders are typically a month long, the time it takes for the completed figures to sail around the world to our US warehouse).

I'm sure this will blow up on me, but I checked the figures out today and they look fantastic and are much further along than ancticipated. So, please budget accordingly. :D

For such stunning figures, there is always room in the budget.

I wish I could say what I REALLY wanted from what I know, but I hope that people are able to draw sensitive conclusions from what they see here vs what competition is offereing. I don't make remarks about certain other peole's offerings in public, but with First Legion, e.g. hands and fingers look like hands and figures, not like disproportionned "things" at the end of an arm...

These are Russian-type figures at a very, very, very affordable price. The sculpting alone makes that they are outstanding for "toy soldiers".

And additionally, Matt is a top guy, who takes critics, is humble, not on the defense and never on the attack...

Any update on this yet Matt? Are you still on track and do you have a better idea of a date for pre-orders yet?

Yes, we sure are. The pre-order is actually scheduled to start at the end of next week with a ship date in the middle of January sometime. I will start a new thread once they are available for order.

I have to say that the production figures will in no way disappoint. The painting has really been taken to another level and I feel this is our best release to date. Of course, you guys haven't seen some of what is coming next yet, so they may only remain our best release to date for a matter of weeks. :D

Matt,

Will the opening of pre-ordering start for the new French Old Guard figures next week as well?

Excellent news, my wife has been asking me for a wish list and I didn't want to have to leave these out. The end of next week should work fine assuming you can then add these to your wish list on the site, which I think is the case. Thanks Matt.

Thanks for making contact Matt my first order just placed on your site hopefully first of many Good Luck to 1st Legion.

This guy is great with a lovely horse; quite reasonable for the quality. I have him on my wish list now.
