Anybody knowns any commercially available railroad bridge matching K&C scale?

I plan to build a diorama similar to K&C (sold to Louis Balbado) with DAK troops crossing a railroad bridge.

Marklin do a couple of them:)

I was in a train store this weekend in York, Pa - the owner told me that G SCALE would be the right size for K&C Figures - Is that Correct ??

RH - I still can't get over how incredible that German V-2 diorama scene looked - a true masterpiece. I think I might try some type of German Railway diorama now.

Ron there was a thread earlier this year (dunno how to put the link in , search for the thread entilted "Trains" and another entitled "Kriegslokomotive" )about trains and sizes, that I found very useful with a lot of info. G scale can mean anything from 1/18 to 1/30 I think.
So its more useful in G scale to go by manufacturer. I found that Marklin Gauge 1 (marklin maxi) was a great size, for flatbeds it dosen't matter as much and USA trains depressed falt beds and flat beds are perfect for the K&C tanks I have. With the depressed faltbeds there are 4 small tabs on the depression, you just break off the outer 1 and the tanks sit in perfectly. You have the advantage of having a bricks and motor store beside you so bring in your vechicles or rockets and that would be the easiest way..a can of spray paint and a few decals and there's lots of fun and a lot of possibilities..desert, snow, cammo:cool::cool::cool: Check out the other thread for more train pics I posted in diodrama called "On the Way to Belgorod" for more pics:D

I used to model railroads in G scale (1:24) which equates out to 1/2 inch = 1 foot. K&C is 1:30/1:32 scale which equates out to 1 inch = 2.4 feet or 1/2 inch = 1.2 feet. A G scale bridge would possibly work, but I think it will appear to be a bit on the "heffty" side with K&C figures. Also, some G scale items are modeled in 1:20 scale which would even be bigger. Hope this is helpful.

Mike

I found the following train scale information to be potentially useful, again subject to the caveat that manufactuers do vary. For this, it would seem you want to find "I" scale or an Aristo-Craft bridge.
Typical model railroad scales are (largest to smallest):

1:12 Large Scale
1:13.7 7/8 inch scale
1:20.3 G, Three-Foot Gauge on Gauge 1 Track
1:22.5 LGB and Bachman
1:24 Half scale
1:29 Aristo-Craft, USA Trains, standard gauge on #1 gauge
1:32 I scale
1:48 O scale
1:64 S scale
1:87.1 HO scale
1:120 TT scale
1:160 N scale
1:220 Z scale

You might also find this excerpt from Wikepedia useful:
G scale 1:22.5, 45mm track. Name derived from 'G'ross, which means "big" in German. G is generally used for garden railways of narrow gauge prototypes, and uses the same track gauge as 1 gauge, below.
½" scale 1:24, 45mm track. Similar to G Scale above, this scale also runs on 45 mm gauge track, and is generally used for both indoor and garden railways of narrow gauge prototypes. The scale of 1:24 in combination with 45 mm track is an attempt to model North American and UK 3 foot or 3 foot 6 inch narrow gauge trains in better proportion to the rails they run on.
original gauge 2 1:29, 45mm track. The dominant scale used in the United States for models of "standard gauge" trains running on 45 mm track, even though 1:32 is more prototypically correct. 1:29 represents standard gauge using 2" gauge track, the original gauge 2. This fell into disuse as gauge 1 at 1.75" was very close. Some manufacturers kept the scale for the models but running them on slightly narrow gauge track.
1 gauge 3/8" scale 1:32, 45mm track. This large scale, once rarely seen indoors in modern use but frequently used for modelling standard gauge trains outdoors, is making a come-back. The Japanese firm of Aster offers ready-to-run gas-fired livesteam models. Gauge 1 has seen something of a remarkable revival in recent years after decades of near extinction commercially, with a growing number of smaller UK manufacturers offering electrically powered locomotive and rolling stock kits and parts for (mostly) indoor layout use. Some manufacturers offer so-called Gauge 1 items in 1:30.48 scale (10 mm = 1 foot) that also run on 45 mm gauge track.

Your best bet is with Marklin 1 Gauge or "MARKLIN MAXI".. Most LGB "G" scale items are too big, However LGB track seems okay,, But you are better off with MARKLIN.. Speaking of trains, i wish Andy would do a "DEUTSCHE REICHBAHN" series!

LGB made a simple one lane steel truss railway bridge that might work. It is relatively inexpensive and with some paint it should look very good

I would be all over 1/30 scale SSYMS 80 tonne and SSY 50 tonne German flatcars and a little stretch of track.

The picture below shows how much work went into preparing the Tiger for transport.

  • Sheet metal fenders removed right and left
  • Front and rear fenders folded up
  • On early and mid Tigers outer set of roadwheels removed
  • Narrow transport track mounted

Been asking for flatbed wagons for serveral months now...

But they assured me that K&C nor JG minatures will make them...

don't worry about who makes it marklin is ace and usa trains will filll the rest including the v2 . its all rather simple and inexpensive, average price for 2nd hand marklin was $20 and for USa trains was 50$ :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:

marklin are the only ones who makes these wagons but they coyt 270$ , the easier way is just to buy USA trains and apply the decals:):):):)

Marklin does make the flats but they are "post war" flats.. They have to have all new decals put on them.. There is one company that make "S" scale 1/29th.. Cant remember the name, but they only make domestic flats.. To be honest, it is getting really frustrating with K&C,,, They are always making the same old same old (normandy, AK etc..).. I agree with the other post about flat cars.. Need to have a DRG "Deatsche Reichsbahn" series.. And i want Italians and Hungarians!!!

The name of the company is "ARISTOCRAFT",, they make US 40 foot flat cars! But where can we find DRG 1/30 scale DECALS??

Hi Frank,

Dragon Models made a ssy-50 in 1/35 scale some time ago, in plastic. I have some NIB that I was going to use in a future dio. They never did the ssyms-80 though, the one I'd really like. I wonder if Dragons ssy-50 would work with some K&C stuff?

Some K&C looks underscale to my eyes.

Hi Paul,

There are 1/35 versions out there such as these:

http://www.tankworkshop.com/Shop/agora.cgi?cart_id=244.14078&product=Tank%20Workshop&user4=German%20Railcars&xm=on

http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=IR012

I suspect even undersized K&C would still be too big.

Here is another shot of a Tiger on a SSYMS flatcar. Note this time it hasn't be reconfigured for transport such as was done for short trips where width wasn't an issue.

I checked out the Marklin website but could only find an HO scale version, although I have to admit I don't know if I'm searching their database correctly. :)

There are a few Marklin gauge 1 releases that have the heavy duty flat car
58656, 58657.. some online shops may still have them and they appear occasionally on ebay..but they seem to be quite collectable have watched a few auctions..There were however a variety of flat cars used in WW2 , will post a few pics following this post:)
