A quick note to say thanks to the Nevilles and crew for hosting the annual evening event. It's a shame a few more of the Froggers couldn't get to the event as it was both informative and entertaining. Beer, wine and food was on tap and the guest speakers included Andy Neilson, Mark Davidson from the Crimean War Research Society, and Joe Mitchie and Jack Bruce, WWII glider pilots.

Mark Davidson gave a talk describing the infamous charge, utilising facts and opinions gleaned during the societies research.

The star performance has to go to Joe Mitchie and Jack Bruce (aged 88 and 89) who were absolute troopers. There was a short docu film they had gotten put together which was both harrowing and humerous, followed by an open question session. All I can hope for is that I have their rapier wit and humour when and if I get to that age. The actions they were involved in were recounted with a modesty that is all but missing from our current generations. I believe TSTV had the camera rolling - I hope so, as I would like to see and hear the talk again. If it's put up, I would urge you to watch this one, if nothing else.

Andy Neilson gave a talk before throwing himself open for questions.

Buildings (such as the Normnandy building used in some of the more recent dios). Are we likely to see them? K&C are trying, but the quotes they have received have been prohibitive. If they can get them done, we are not likely to see them before the back end of the year.

I also had the oportunity to quiz him about some of my wants.
Modern era conflicts - seriously unlikely (which I expected), due to the recency and in some cases, unpopularity of the wars = poor sales.

The Brits should be well catered for, over several periods in the first 6 months of 2009, including transport.:)

No plans for more Russians at the moment. Unfortunate, as I'm just getting interested in these - typical.

Goody bags were handed out with complimentory tickets for the next show, K&C vouchers, or 'Robs' as the denomination has now officially been coined, TSC mag and 6 more of Andy's sketches, on the same paper as the Chicago sketches (Thanks again Shannon!).

I've only photographed them at the mo, rather than scanning them, but they should be clear enough for you to get the idea. A couple of them might be subtle clues as to some potential future releases

I think you guys should try for a figure next year. Figures are given out by both K & C and Figarti at the other two principal events, the West Coaster and Chicago and it seems only fitting that there should be a London figure. Perhaps if one of you take the lead and work with Tony, something could be arranged.

Sure hope the new Normandy building(s) comes to fruition. I don't see what the problem is, though. I don't think people are expecting a new building to be nearly as cheap as the French Farmhouse. The JG Miniatures Arnhem building costs about $450 for a complete structure. I plan on getting it at the WestCoaster, but I'd feel a lot better about shelling out that money if it was a K&C product.

Brad

Shannon kindly had 100 Beau Geste figures made for the show and were given out to the first 100 through the door.

Will we do one for the show!! we do it three times per year and also as we spend enough of Neville Snrs retirement fund on the show a figure would be a little far. I will leave the special figure for the other guys.

Plus also we have some great special figures in the form of the Crimean!!

Also raffled off the #2 CRW24SL which was won by a Brian Johnson and still have the TSC subscription to raffle off.

Great attendance with USA, Canada, Holland, France and the UK all represented.

We also had at the show dealers from Russia, Australia, France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, USA, Canada, Poland and of course the UK!! so truly an international event!

Just starting to clear the dust now.

I concur with Simon the highlight for me was the WWII Glider pilots i have never had a lump so huge as the one i had in my throat as we watched the presentation they did then listened to them talk about their actions on DDAY and Arnhem. The thing that struck home with me more so was the amount of humor these guys had in the face of certain death! Good old English wit.

We gave Joe and Jack Market garden figures............or as Jack called it OPERATION COCK UP. Joe really liked the Gun team as he flew two of these teams into Arnhem. We also gave them a cheque for £200 for their society.

It was a very very proud moment for me.........blimey and still gets me now.

My day starting at 4am and finishing at 1 am the next day fell into total insignificance.

December 08 was truly a great show and day.

Yeah all filmed for TSTV...............please bear with me though as there is over 3 hours of footage and there is a lot going on here so i will promise to get it up on the site just as soon as i can.

all the best

Tony

By the way Kurt i have seen in Hong Kong a great great prototype for a building they are looking to get done.................jaw dropping awesome.

I do hope they get that one off the ground

With all due respect Tony, you're putting on the London Show in order to make a profit, not a money losing operation, and the comment was directed to Andy's talk, not the Show overall. So what Shannon or Beau Geste may do or not wasn't relevant to the point I was trying to make. Giving out a special figure, like a Crimean figure, would be something special.

I don't think the dealers who sponsor the dinners or the talks at the Show and provide the figure are doing it for charitable purposes but because it's both good business and kind of a thank you for having done business with them throughtout the year.

Brad

On your point matey!!

The Show as much as we would like it to be is not a Profit making business! As any profits we make we plough back into the show and the hobby! . The room hire for the TSTV talk and AV equipment hire alone was £400. And that was an extra! we put it on for the best of the HOBBY and not to make money out of it! would love to show the P&L of the show too many of a person!

We put the show on to resuce it from where it was and of course we then make our money on our tables selling K&C.

And the goodie bages we supply at the end of the night and have done for the last four years contain a lot of good will!

Like the goody bag i gave out in New York this year!! which had a figure in!

Also i find it a crying shame when you witness people taking more than one figure from the Figarti dinner! and a thank you gift from the K&C dinner apearing on Ebay two days later! kinda throws the thankyou back in your face!

So a nice goody bag filled with relevant goodies to those that came to the dinner. Plus we spend a good deal of cash on the guys that dont turn up for free to speak. i think we do our bit.

And no not taking offence in any way shape or form..............Just would love everybody to see what goes into making a good show happen! :) and then show them the books!

best regards

Tony

So I misunderstood, and you're not going to send on one of the Lancasters to all the evening event attendees then?;)

Tony,

You have no idea about the guilt I was suffering, knowing that whilst you were hard at work packing the stuff away, I was on my forth coffee and stuffing my face with more bacon and eggs.

It caused me a great deal of mental anguish, but fortunately, I managed to get over it with a croissant. :D

You know Simon we missed a great chance on Saturday for a grab and run raid.Lets examine the evidence about who on the K&C team could have stopped us.Daves really laid back and would have held the door open for us.Mike is having a cratfy *** outside,Susan had a hangover:)DOnly kidding Susan and thanks for the Coke-she wasn't giving out drugs you understand,i'm talking soft drinks here)Tony was trying to keep down the legendary National fried breakfast and was in no fit state to give chase. That leaves the person who does all the work Catherine and she sits at the pc with her back to us.We could have grabbed anything!!.Good job we are honest guys Simon ;):D
