This is my first diorama and post on any forum so I am looking for any feed back. The diorama has in process for the last few months (off and on). The diorama was started by using 1/4 inch foam board as a base, model railroad styro foam to create the 4 degree slope then covered in wire mesh with plaster over top to match the contours of the hill in front of the federal's line. The plaster was then painted and coated with sifted baseball diamond dirt while the paint was wet to simulate the ground in a 54MM scale. This was done in 2 coats. The large rock was modeled and painted to mimic one in front of the federal line that are seen in a number of photo's. The diorama is also using JG Miniature trees and Silfor for the "open" grass at this time. The figures will be from Conte, William Britain and Old Northweat and number almost 170 if they will all fit. The diorama should depict a section of the final assualts on the Friday morning of July 3rd, 1863.

Sounds interesting, but your pictures did not appear at my end. Would like to see it. My wife's Great Great Uncle fought at Culp's Hill while a member of the 52nd Va Inf. I portrayed him often when I was an active Civil War re-enactor.

Mike, thanks for the reply, try the link to my daughter's website to see the pictures of the base which is 20" by 40". For some reason the individual links do not seem to work after we post them. We are going to post more pictures as jpegs directly in the forum soon or provide a link. I did not have any relatives that fought at Gettysburg but my adopted regiment, the 7th Ohio was of course on Culp's Hill. I was also a Civil War reenactor mostly with the National Regimant out of Ohio than later Texas.

7th,
Welcome to the forum! Your diorama is going to fit 170 figs on it?! I guess Culp's Hill was arses and elbows then! Post 'em when you got 'em!

7th, Looking forward to seeing it when finished. I really like the grass. Good luck on your project.

Hi,

I used to be in the National Regiment with the 5th New Hampshire. That was in the late 1990's. I'll be watching your progress. Great start. You're in luck with this action as there are a few period photos of Culp's Hill and some period illustrations to go by.

Scott, always good to run into a past pard from the National Regiment. I was in the 8th Ohio and later the 9th Texas until the late 90's when I retired from re enacting. We sometimes fell in with the 5th NY. I was in all of the 125th anniversary events. There are some new photo's of the Culp's Hill diorama on my daughter's web site here is the address:

We will post more pictures soon. We are working on the story line, final details and back ground now. I have also attached some files.

Thx

Chris
