As your aware first legion have produced imo the best Napoleonic figures ive seen and was wondering if any K&C collectors or collectors of other collections may change/swap to 1st legion ?

Why do you have to change ?

Why can't you buy both ? I don't see it as a either or - situation.

who said you have to change? thats not the question i'm asking who will/might, change/swap. Pressuming most us wouldn't be able to afford both.
who can afford both? lets put it another way if one had to go which would you keep?

How about you looking at each mfg. figures and making the call yourself..Each of us like what we collect for our own personal individual, tastes. What I like may not be another's preference.. Buy what you can afford and never look back, but ultimately, it will be your decision. Michael

Well said Michael and Ron. For those that have a preference, I think this question has been well answered here in at least two forums. For those that don't, I think Michael's and Ron's answers cover the matter very well.

The way you asked it -- see the title of your thread -- implied that a collector might or should change since, impliedly, you said that K & C is not as good as First Legion.

Having recently taken the plunge into First Legion I have been asking myself for weeks if I prefer my K&C Russian Napoleonics or my new First Legion British and French figures. Both have features I prefer over the other.

First Legion:
1. more realistic sculpting
2. more detailed painting
3. more interesting poses
4. more Napoleonic releases

King & Country:
1. better scale IMO (this is a big issue for me)
2. colors are unrealistically bright, but I like that better some reason
3. better feel to them/seems less fragile
4. Brand name

As far as Napoleonics go, I will probably get more First Legion than K&C. However, if First Legion branches out into other areas like WWII, I wouldn't collect them no matter how good they looked. K&C owns WWII. I would make one exception, though. I would collect American Revolution figures from First Legion. K&C's Hessian's were awesome, but their Patriot figures just don't look right to me.

They both have their merits but, I prefer First Legion in Napoleonics. I have Napoleonics made by Figurine Emporium and they look very similar to First Legion juding from the photos. I never collected WW2 but, K&C rules in that market. I have the four mounted Confederate Generals from K&C (i.e. Lee, Stuart, Jackson and Forrest). These are magnificent sculpts and make a nice little diorama together with the mounted flagbear in the back! It would be nice to include Longstreet in that mix. I wish Andy would do a Union version with Grant, Sherman, etc. :)

Spot on.It really comes down to personal choice.I can only speak for WW2 as i don't collect Naps, however for me the soldiers of different companies really have to go well together for it to work.I have only found one set that i feel really fit in with my K&C and that is NMA's first release of the Mortar team, they go nicely with my Normandy Germans.

I read rumours of FL going into the WW2 area, for me they would have to be truly awsome for me to dip my toe.I await developments with interest!

I just got my very first K&C figure a (Coldstream Gaurd) very nice indeed.
I like the painting style on K&C's and the Frontline's plus they match ok with my painted.
Metal kits and Plastics...I don't plan on buying First Legion its not so much.
the cost just my preference. :)

I agree with Ragnar !My first figure was also the Seargent of the Coldstream Guards , and i don't see much difference with the FL products (sorry too expensive at the moment for me), then i bought the Cantiniere and the drinking Cuirassier, the Russian officer wounded and some others..all are beautiful pieces..by the way every time i go on the site of First Legion i admire the beautiful russian command set..for a while i was fascinated with the Russian military history..i bought even Yermolov's Biography!Very interesting with petty jealousies and bickerings between the "germans" and the russian generals..so i must resist ..a little thing that every napoleonic fan knows by the way is that the troops on the field don't even resemble the uniform regulations..i'd like to have soldiers more ragged and desperate in appearence than what we have now..something more similar to the Voltigeurs of WBritain, but i know of the "patches issue"..:)

This is more than a bit like comparing a Jaguar to a GMC Pickup; both have their merits and while intended for the same general purpose, achieve it in very different ways. One represents the pinnacle of artistry and style, the other is rugged and dependable. As has been noted before, K&C has a more traditional toy soldier style and the bulky bodies and over-scaled hands and weapons and overly bright colors have their virtues and are appealing to many. First Legion has a more connoisseur style and their more subdued colors, interesting poses and accurate and correctly scaled figures certainly have their virtues and appeal to many others. No question K&C has a huge following based on their much longer history and offers slightly better pricing if sheer quantity of figures is a concern. For me the choice is obvious based on my preferences. I do like the GMC for towing a trailer but for sheer driving pleasure, I will take the the Jag.

Ha! I am 100% with your on those 8 points that you'd posted. You've summarized it much better than I did last year when I wrote a review on FL's 1st French gun release.

i 've said imo first legion are the best figures on the market i certainly didn't or intend to imply anything, maybe the question could have been put better but i think the jist is there.though there seem to a lot of good sensible answers.
As has been said its a matter of taste was just wondering how many(if any) might think "wow"got to have instead of........ ,obviously finance and what you want form your figures plays a big factor.Personally i cant stand figures being displayed on glass or wooden shelves, theres nothing better than seeing these displayed on a realistic dio.
I think both look great on dioramas but FLS are better for the realism, they are also better painted ,sculpted. I will be changing for some dio's but not for everything.

I just looked at the First Legion French Line Infantry and was blown away.

Pricey, but absolutely gorgeous.

I love how the bases can line up to each other and the variety of figures.

I own a lot of K&C Crusaders/Saracens, which I love.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

If $$$$$'s no problem, lol, buy them all.

;) Frontline, has a GREAT WW2 British Infantry Sets, But they're NOT 1/30th Scale Figure's! I hope Andy would give us Collector's the Same/Similar Sets as FL? Although, I must say that Andy's Retired CHURCHILL Tank, is Smaller, than Frontline's CHURCHILL Tank!
