In recent years Dave Love, owner of Mountford Miniatures the renowned artillery specialists, has been establishing his extensive range of waterline ships. Now he has returned to the modelling scene with a new range of artillery and related items and figures which will make their debut at the forthcoming London show on March 28th. His intent is to produce the unusual, give a new twist to the conventional and to fill in some of the gaps in this field. One of the first new releases is shown below and there will be more to look forward to at the show.

That's a different idea! Are these a true 54mm?

Slightly larger. Compatible with Tradition, ATS, and Little Legion.

Compare this illustration from Wilkinson-Latham: Infantry Uniforms Book Two 1855-1939 (Figures in background very similar to the Mountford set.)

Am informed that Mountford will be situated in the small hall on the 28th and are looking forward to meeting the Treefroggers.

I have been looking at some old metal kits from Mountford Miniatures catalog and wonder about a best source for aquiring these at this point?

Cheers,
MD

As I recall Mountford only made kits. Another outfit sold the painted models. What is not clear to me is how Mountford and Fleurbaix relate. The latter claims to have purchased Mountford and show several of their guns on their web site

Thanks. Have you had any dealings with Tarrant's Toy Soldiers? Their website lists a fairly comprehensive looking catalogue of Mountford kits, but I wonder how up to date the site is. I have sent an email to them, but no response as of yet.

Have not dealt with them but the site is not current. Maybe one of our UK members might have some info.

Some time ago Mountford concentrated on making waterline ships, which they still do, and sold the Victorian range of artillery to Last Stand Models who have since dropped off the radar completely, no one knowing where they or the master patterns are. The remainder of the range including all the modern pieces were sold to Fleurbaix. At the March show in London Mountford made a re-appearance with the first of a completely new range of artillery pieces and related items. This consists of a 9 pdr RML gun and limber mounted both on wheels and on sledges with attendant figures and horses.
Gun and limber are available seperately or with figures both painted and unpainted. New items are in the process of being made and will be seen at the June show. Mountford can be contacted at Tel. 01246 241881 or Email dlove@supanet.com

These were featured in the Toy Soldier Collector this month the artillery pieces are made by Dave Love the figures and horses are sculpted by Alan Caton so I would presume they scale in with LL, Asset, Yeomanry. They are making some sets in summer order with figures in pill box caps or white helmets, the artillery will be mounted with wheels insted of sledges. Ive booked mine set already
