Berlin'38 (1 Viewer)

You know - when you collect NAPOLEONICS - you never have this "PC" trouble - most people have no knowledge of the entire age and they just look & admire the colorful uniforms ! ;):D:rolleyes:

That is because whole bunch of revisionists have airbrushed out just how close we came to a new European Reich and how a plucky army of Redcoats made the world safe for democracy for over 100 years. :D

With all due respect I truly can't see how some guys are happy to collect the later Waffen (Fighting) SS figures that are in camo and or grey/green uniforms but see something more sinister in the earlier black uniforms.

This is despite the previously stated fact that the so called nasty black wearing guys simply changed to other uniforms in 1939. It should also be remembered that during the black clothing era Jews etc were usually told/made to leave Germany rather than exterminated en mass during the later uniform period.

I guess Hollywood etc are once again largely to blame because nasty SS types in most movies are depicted in the obsolete black uniforms, this even occurs in movies where most of the vehicles etc are correct such as Bridge at Remagen.

I didnt start this thread to make any trouble just wanted to no how many others collected this range thats all. Now can we close this thread Admin?

As I said you just need to post a link, this is a favourite forum debate which never really comes to any conclusions and generally just inflames passions.

Now Ron!:D, the British Army fought against the Germans in WW1/WW2 for freedom and democracy AND still represented the monarchy;).

I only have the two Staff Cars. But I plan on all the Berghof sets and who knows, that may lead to more.

I read your #41 post Rob, but I still can't follow your thinking on this considering the LAH range is focused on musicians and marching figures. Is it the percussion instruments that are the concern, maybe those LAH guys could do some nasty things with cymbals ;) :D

It is an amazing range, as usual to the highest standards of K&C. I have a friend who drools over it and spends his cash and time collecting it, in the flesh you cannot not be impressed.

However, the subject matter is neither to my liking or to my interest. The many benefits of this hobby is that we can choose our interests, research the history and indulge in our imaginations. Also, thankfully we all have the freedom manufactuers, collectors and alike to choose what we want to do. I think it is a brave choice for a subject, whether you agree or not, Nazi militaria is very collectable, what we musn't forget is the impact the Third Reich made on this planet. If such ranges can remind us of that then fair play, if it is just about the pomp and, goodness forbid the glory of it all then I go with Rob and its a big no thank you for me.

Sorry - I am still stuck in the early 1800's ! :D :p ;)

Where did Napoleon ever establish a democracy ?
He appointed his relatives kings and queens.
He ruled France by dictat.
Britain was a constitutional monarchy.
The rest of the 19 th Century involved the British bringing law and order to the rest of the world. Great Britain could not be responsible for the fact that the rest of Europe was ruled by monarchs for the next 100 years.
The House of Commons is the mother parliament for a reason.

There is no question that Napoleon did more for the Rights of Man - than any European Monarchy - including England.

You can have a British Bias all you want - but, the reforms brought about by the Napoleonic Code and tearing down of established Monarchy with their cast system - for a period of time - help the lowly individual throughout Europe. I know this is hard to believe there is more to Europe and European Monarchies than Island of England. ;)

Damian - I am not interested in fighting with you - you have your opinion and I have mine. Let just let it go at that.

Cheers, Ron

Ron my friend we are not fighting just robustly discussing.
Keep well

I am a great admirer of the British Army , but a great fan of Napoleon and his code..he was instrumental in braking the excesses of the Revolution and for the code , it was the base for many european codes (civil law) ..as an Italian (and i consider Napoleon half ,75% Italian and i'm proud of it) i can only thank him (nonetheless many of our works of art took the way of Paris to please his will) for he estabilished the first republics (Repubblica Cisalpina) that were at the base of our Risorgimento (Napoleon III then helped us in gaining our indipendence). So if today i should chose a side i'd fight for the Empereur as many of my countrymen did!
Vive l'Empereur!!!

You'd rather live under a dictator(no offence Ron;)) than in a free Europe that followed Wellingtons victory?!
