I was thinking of rejoining the collectors club and had a couple of questions. Is the online application form secure? I am a little concerned since I will be sending my credit card information.

Also can anyone give me their opinion on CF004 the Wehrmacht Soldier. To me it just does not look that interesting. My mind though could be changed if somebody who owns it gives it high marks.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Unfortunately, the online application form does not appear to be secure. First, the status bar at the bottom of my web browser window does not display an unbroken lock symbol. An unbroken lock symbol means your personal information is scrambled, and no one can read it but the e-business you've contacted. Second, secure sites have "https" at the beginning of the address, rather than "http." The "s" stands for "secure" and indicates the information you send is encrypted or scrambled, so it can't be read during transmission. Finally, nothing on the the application page or the Collector's Club category states that it is secure or that information is encrypted. I suggest printing out the forum and faxing it to K&C.:)

Just my opinion but I think its a terrific figure. I have 4 of them guarding the

entrance to the Chancellery. The figures are nicely painted and look terrific!

The CF004 figure is a good one. My army is less important than John's one so I have only two as guardians:)

Pierre.

You could use LAH 25 or 26 for Chancellery guards, they are similar to CF-004 and more likely to be true to life being SS. Of course the LAH range isn't to everyones taste, but to me they just represent a different colored uniform in the same regime.

Pierre.....I had labor problems seems mine saw my old teamster card.

So twice the labor for half the work........only thing they are guarding is their

lunch!

I echo those sentiments. I have emailed Andy and he assures me they're working on making it secure.

Thanks for the information. I will hold off joining till they have a secure link. Thanks for the input on CF004 but I think I will pass on him. The time period is not my favorite and there is only so much money.

Old Guard,

As Steven says you can fax the form in. That's what I did and whenever I want to order a figure, I just send Zoe an email and she charges my card. The Wittman figure is nice as is the other recent WW 2 figure. Howewer, I'm not sure you collect that. At any rate, faxing is probably the best option now.

I don't think the Old Guard will break this time Brad, it looks like he'll stick to his muskets :)

Very funny OzDigger. We all know that the truth is the Old Guard never broke. It is only some old British propaganda that says differently. We all know that when it come to accurate history of the Napoleonic wars you always have to take what the British say with a grain of salt.

Thanks,
Old Guard

Did you ever hear the story of the waterloo scale model that was built and was highly researched by the creater who had researched and had gotten all sides of the story and tried to get the amount of troops on the battle field as accurate as possible and had the prussain strenght on the field that day at 48,000 troops and wellington demanded that they be removed because he didn,t want the true numbers of prussain troops to be know as this would reveal the fact that the battle would have been lost for sure without there help. So yes take all british reports with a grain of salt! I bet you didn,t hear munch in england at the time about the old guard squares at waterloo that were the rear guard and refused to surrender that stood to the last!

The victors write the history as some people say.

As for the Old Guard 'breaking'. This isn't my era but I understood that about 7.00 pm on the night of Waterloo the Old Guard were commited to the battle when the Prussians arrived on the scene. And by 7.30 pm a French order was heard "La Garde recule!” (“Guard, fall back!”) followed by the remainder of the French forces retreating. This being followed by the final brave French squares and a "Merde" quote, which is almost as famous as the later "Nuts" at Bastogne.

Admitedly I absorbed these tidbits of info from movies and the internet over the years so they may not be entirely correct. Therefore I'd appreciate any input from more knowledgeable people about the final half hour at Waterloo, and if the Old Guarde actually did break.

In victory or defeat, we all admire the actions that show integrity, strength and commitment.
Is there anything more dissapointing than to have a great event decided by a mistake or misstep?

There were a a young- middle- and old guard and yes they did break as word of the prussains arriving broke there spirits as they were told that it was groucys french troops coming up in there rear and right flank not the prussains(big shock to the mental state)not to mention that they were being cut down by well placed steady british musket volleys one after another. The middle and young guard are the ones that started the mass retreat and it was the old gaurd that held out and covered there retreat. I always wonder what would have happened if the prussains never showed up and wellington had to high tail it out of there or even been routed how napoleon would have faired against the austrain and russain forces that were also on there way and I,m sure they would have hooked up with the reformed prussains also. And how wellington would have been remembered today??? Thats the great thing about waterloo there are so many what if,s. What if 30,000 french troops didn,t spend the day before travleing back and forth between the two battles of quatrabra and ligney they could have have stoped the battle of waterloo from even taking place if they could have been present at either battle instead of going back and forth between the two on mixed up orders. With the extra troops on the field the prussains could have been crushed and the victory followed through and then wellington would have been left to fend for himself. Also if ney had not been so scared and just made a full out attack at quatrabra before wellington had a chance to renforce the crossroads he could have taken it easily as he had a huge advantage in numbers when he arrived but was to cautious of wellington having a trap of hidden troops hidden in reserve as he had many times in the peninsular. We,ll never know!

Thanks fish, I suspect the result would have been rather different if the Prussians didn't arrive when they did. Speaking of Prussians, as I'm a fan of the 'Waterloo' movie I've always thought their uniforms were black, but I've since noted it was a dark blue, and with fading I guess they may have looked like French uniforms from a distance.

Hi Guys;

Just to describe the courage of the Guards at Waterloo.
At the moment one of the squares was heavy outnumbered and ready to break, the General was yelling:

"Messieurs (Gentlemen): stay steady; they are not shooting with ****. It are only bullets!"
