It's a good suggestion. Simon, Rob and I have been championing the release of raiding commandos for quite awhile. Something along the lines of the old Airfix and Matchbox sets.
We keep being told that Pacific sets, eastern Europe sets etc don't sell and now commandos are added to the list of lame ducks!
I would respectfully suggest that the only people who really know what sells are the manufacturers with hard sales figures not eBay results!

But if new sets were geared up as commandos doing raids (kayaks / dinghies, ropes, dispatching guards etc) - now that would be new.

Terry

There's just something cool about this type of stuff. I'm sure it goes back to comic book stuff, but Airfix and Matchbox nailed it perfectly in the 70s.
I think it would work out pretty well now.

It's all do-able in terms of size, and we've got the current batch of scenic pieces that could work very well, for those wanting to put a display together.
I think you'd end up with some very unique poses. I mean, who wouldn't want a couple of Commandos climbing up 1/30 scale ropes from their French Coast display shelf, to the Napoleonic shelf above it, to take out the opposition. ;)

Simon

I still think they were very popular and theres nothing wrong with us having our own little campaign to get some more,i don't think its doing any harm.

Rob

Didn't say there was  All I said was I don't think you'll see them anytime soon.

Re Commandos, I think this is a bit of an unknown quantity if you take the type of figures I think most of us are angling after. Whilst I really liked the old DD57/8 etc sets, they were Royal Marines in a more conventional 'infantry combat' role. I'd like to see commandos cammed up, with comforters on a raiding party (kayaks / dinghies, ropes, dispatching guards etc). I'm not aware of these being done to any great extent, in matt 1/30 (or much in metal at all).

True but they're still commandos and I don't know that K & C will distinguish it that finely. It's hard enough to get British sets made as it is and I think I'd like to see (and buy) other things before another group of commandoes.

I also think it's a bit early to start drawing comparisons on the retired figure values and popularity. They haven't been retired that long. The Waffen SS figures such as WS50, 58, 60 etc are still barely reaching original retail as a rough guide, and there's rarely dispute over the popularity of these sets.

Simon

I would completely disagree with that. They have been retired for some time and you can't compare German sets to Allied sets as the former will always do better in the aftermarket. Moreover, I don't think those German sets set the world on fire.

It's nice to ask for what you (the generic you that is) would like to see made but unless you get a concerted campaign with many supporters, ultimately Andy will make what he would like to make and what he thinks the collecting community will like (and purchase).

Brad - it's almost as if you decide what sells and what doesn't sell according to whether you are interested in that subject or not!
Luckily for us it's not you making the decisions at K&C :)

Now personally I think there's a lot of scope in a Commando range and i believe K&C will make them sooner or later- maybe in the FOB range?

Wouldn't they need their own range. Didn't much of the commando activity take place between Dunkirk and Normandy? They could continue the series of Frech resistance fighters, radio spy sets etc.

their own range sounds a great idea. I'd call it something like 'Go Commando'.

James,

Why do you need to make this personal? It's as if you're offended that I've disagreed with you. I'm just giving you my opinion. I enjoy the British soldiers rthat are made more than the US ones and would buy them if made as I bought the older ones when they came out. Objectively, I just don't think they'll be made.

Last time I checked Andy didn't consult me on what he decides to make.

The Vaasgo raid would also allow for some more ordinary German troops to oppose our Commandos.

Hi Brad- it's nothing personal i just felt you were being a bit negative about our suggestion.
That's fine everyone has an opinion but because you don't seem to be interested in 'Going Commando' you seem a bit overly negative.
Don't worry I have a feeling this campaign has barely begun.
And it's all in good fun. 'GO GO!'

If you look at my posts, there's nothing negative about the idea; I like the idea. I just focused on the likelihood of it being made. You can count me down as a supporter because I would purchase them if made :)
