Hi Guys,
First of all a large bouquet of roses to our old friends Alex Prieto and Tom Dubel for their superb modification of K&C’s old DD024 “General Lee” tank.
As I’ve said and written many times before… “One of the great joys all of us (me especially) at K&C get is seeing the creative inventiveness of collectors either in their adaption of existing models or their display skills in presenting our models in new and fascinating ways”.
Bravo Alex for doing the fine conversion and Tom for commissioning it!!!
2. Redoing older models… producing brand-new versions and coming up with something completely different…
At K&C we try to strike a fair balance between redoing and upgrading a model we may have produced in the past and coming up and introducing a model either K&C or our competitors have never done before.
Overall, I think we get it more right than wrong… I am constantly looking at all of our products and thinking “How can I make it better!” At the same time as new technology is constantly developing we can look at certain things we did before and now see ways and means to improve and upgrade some of these earlier pieces.
So, basically, you will see newer, bigger, and I believe, better upgrades of previously released vehicles (and figures) but you will also see a whole lot of newer pieces that have never been reproduced in 1:30 scale by K&C or… anyone else for that matter.
3. “Dem Ole Tigers & Shermans”
The reason K&C and some of our competitors make lots of Tigers and Shermans (in all their many guises) is… surprise, surprise… because they SELL!
Plus, of course, I happen to love Tigers and Shermans!!!
New collectors are constantly coming in to this hobby… Some with lots of background historical knowledge… Others with little… To many “NEWBIES” they may only know the names of two WW2 tanks… The Tiger and The Sherman.
A new collector may not (or cannot) always fork out the “dosh” for a retired piece.
However if their entry-level fave, rave tank is available at a regular piece… they’ll get it.
Simultaneously, your average Tiger or Shermanaholic loves as many different versions of his favourite tank as his sticky little paws (or grasping big mitts) can get his hands on to.
So, dear friends, Tigers and Shermans will, I believe, sell… and sell… and sell.
BUT… So will other items as well… That’s all part of the fun.
4. “DESERT VILLAGE PALM TREES”
Yes, K&C is producing these little beauties and they will be on show in Chicago.
5. “Chicago!”
For K&C it’s four weeks and counting… We’ll be arriving (Gordon, Patrick, Helen and yours truly) on the Tuesday before the show.
We’re doing a “meet ‘n’ Greet” at Mike Hall’s “SIERRA” store a few days before that.
Talking of Gordon… He’s been chained to his workbench for the last 3 months working on his displays. We allow him half an hour in the morning and the same in the evening to pace around his exercise yard and get some fresh air… whether he needs to or not!
I’d just like to thank all those who have been sending him food parcels and red cross packages. Once he finished everything we will make sure he gets some of them!!!
On that cheerful note I’ll bid you all… a fond adieu and adios amigos… Hiyo Silver!
