Got the 5 new Winter Warrior sets last week and have been examining them quite closely and comparing the to previous winter and Waffen sets. These are clearly a better quality next generation series of figures. The design, sculpting, and even the painting are improved over previous figures. Uniform colors and details more closely resemble the real thing. Facial features are sharp and detailed. Even the painting of the faces is improved with feathered shading for a more realistic look.

The “sledge set” is a diorama piece all in it's self and I was quite pleased to see the detail of the wounded soldier that is hidden from view in the promo picture.

Don’t be alarmed when you get the Hasso von Manteuffel figure and wonder if K&C figures are getting smaller. This is a strong case of K&C doing their homework. Hasso von Manteuffel was short in stature with a body type very similar to Montgomery. A picture of Hasso von Manteuffel standing next to Hitler shows him 4 to 5 inches shorter than Hitler. Hitler’s Austrian Army enlistment physical has his height as 173 cm (5’ 8”) which would put Hasso von Manteuffel at the 5’ 3’-5’ 4” range. Kudos to K&C for nailing an accurate image of Hasso von Manteuffel right down to his distinctive elongated binoculars.

Rick-
I think you are giving KC the benefit of the doubt here. My understanding - which could be wrong - is that KC does not intentionally vary the size of their figures. For some reason, however, we occasionally get figures that look too small. One of the dealers indicated that this results from the preference of individual sculpters. I agree this is a nice set and the winter camo is somewhat different than we have seen before. Absent your explanation, however, I would have passed on Hasso, but maybe I can buy into it now.

You are wrong here. If you look at the Commanders Conference, they're not all the same size. That was done on purpose because people vary in height. Panzer's explanation makes perfect sense and that is Von Manteuffel is the size he is.

All of the winter sets are splendid and this is no exception.

This size thing tends to get overblown and we make too much of it.

I hope the variation in sizes resulted from an improved attention to detail by K & C rather than by some happy accident. Whatever the cause, the result is that it's a good set, so let's enjoy it for that. We have a number of specialist members on this forum now and any errors made by manufactures will soon be noted. I also feel the average collector is becoming more selective because of increased knowledge about the subject. And considering the increasing costs of these luxury collectable items there are now less excuses for poor design than there used to be.
