Broken chain support on supply wagon... (1 Viewer)

I noticed on my display yesterday that my supply wagon didn't look right and on further examination noticed that one of the small chain links has snapped near to the bigger round one and now the wagon is just tilting forward.

Despite an hour of painstakingly trying to join the links together they are just so small and fiddly it is impossible. I am gutted as this is one of my most favourite (and expensive sets).

Can anyone offer any hope of how I might repair this???

In our craft stores here in the states ( Michaels, A.C.Moore ) I am guessing that you have something similar. They have a build your own jewelry aisle. There one can buy very small link chain. They are suitable for what you would need to replace the assembly..Michael

If it's the small size of the broken piece that's the problem, perhaps K&C UK can repair it or suggest a nearby model builder who may be able to.

I would bet a dime to a doughnut...that if you contacted K&C by email...they would ship you the entire chain assembly for free...I bet they would.

I would think so as well. Also, single strand copper wife, available at any hardware or electrical supply story, is very flexible and strong, even at that guage. I must say I can't see anything broken and the cart appears at the correct angle in that photo?

This photo is not mine its off the K&C website, I was just using it to highlight what part had broken.

I will send an email to K&C and if they can't help, then will try some of the other suggestions.

Fraid you've lost that dime Mike , K&C just got back to confirm that they do not have spare parts its a brand new wagon or try and repair the one I've got....

I've done the same thing twice. Once for a lost wire antennae which they mailed to me immediately. But when I needed to replace the small ammo box that came with IWJ013 Mountain Gun, but they couldn't help as the piece was out of production and they had no spares lying around. Sounds like even if the piece is in stock but out of production, there are no spare pieces either. It's certainly understandable considering how many pieces there are to hundreds of models. Never did find a spare ammo box anywhere.

Mike I use to have this set. Im not sure on the number, but its from there American Revolution series. Yes it is retired.

In all fairness, I am not so sure Michael. It may seem a small favor but it they do not have spare chains, which is quite understandable, especially for a retired item, it is then not so small. I am sure they would provide one if they had it but otherwise they would have to specially manufacture one, which would cost much more than several new new editions of the item itself.

Thanks very much for the offer Jeff, I really appreciate it, however I am pleased to say that last night with a bucket load of patience, a pair of steady hands and some tweezers my wife somehow managed to reconnect the broken link and push it together enough to hold, so all sorted!

Bill...you're right...if they did still have some...it would be a very "small favor" for a good customer from K&C...that's why I was asking for the # and retired status of the piece...if it is retired...the chances of getting a replacement grow so much slimmer...imagine all the pieces they make and imagine all the boxes of supplies in their warehouse...I'm sure it's a huge stock...massive in fact...but the link chain should be some "standard stock" that they use for linkage on all assemblies for horse and carts...but...if K&C say they don't have anymore...then that's definitive...they are a good company...if they had it...I'm sure they would have offered to send it...they are a great company and the goodwill gestures go a long way...

quite few years back, when I was collecting K&C armor, I finally picked-up the Winter Tiger, with box and numbered foldout, in perfect condition. a few days later, as I was reading the folder, one of my daughters accidently spilled water on it and it was totally ruined. not knowing what to do, I asked members of this forum, what to do. they said send Andy of K&C an email with your problem. I did, never expecting a suitable answer. a few days later, Fanny (I believe) said they had located a pristine copy for me but unfortunatly it wouldnt have the certificate number on it. I didn't really care, as long as I had the folder. it was a really nice jesture by Andy and the K&C team. by the way, when i did sell the Tiger, the person who bought it didnt care either, he just wanted the Tiger.... who could blame him.....
