Re: “Same old… Same old”

Andy,

This is the golden age of the hobby, in large part due to your innovations. With K&C, and the companies it has inspired, there is an embarassment of riches for collectors to chose from.

Same old, indeed . . .

Indeed. The variety coming out of K & C is mindblowing.

There is no lack of choice for a toy soldier collector to choose from, be it K & C, Jenkins, First Legion, Britains, etc., just a lack of money:(

Absolutely True Louis....Andy and K/C's innovations are largely responsible for the impetus for the growth of this hobby and the emergence of other companies in this arena. As a result other companies have also produced excellent products in there own right. All in all it is truely a golden age for this hobby......However difficult on the budget with all these choices....therefore most of us have had to re-focus, narrow down and at times re-direct in regards to ranges and styles

Re: “Same old… Same old”

Andy, please keep the good stuff coming! Just take a few aspirin and repeat - "the customer is always right"

Re: “Same old… Same old”

I suspect people who are bored aren't getting enough of the specific series they collect.

Terry

I think that goes to the heart of it and I, for one, can hardly wait to see some new SOHK figures. But, that doesn't mean I have not been amazed by (and lusted after) many of the new and 'obscure' releases.

I've already been sucked in to adding a few Eighth Army items to my collection and have really had to resist the temptation to buy into the Crimean, WW1 French, Kriegsmarine and Arnhem series. Am seriously tempted by the Sons of Empire and KNOW that if (as rumored) Chinese pirates or the like are released to provide a credible opposition for the Shanghai Marines/USN figures, the latter will definitely be on the list of must haves.

And... if the standard of after sales service that I recently received from k&c in Hong Kong is anything to go by, all I can say is don't even consider changing from the "same old... same old". Just brilliant.

Re: “Same old… Same old”

Hi Guys,

... Yes, I can definitely see lots of the “same old… same old”.

In a few days you guys are going to see a whole lot more…

Best wishes and happy collecting from the same old…
Andy C.

Hi Andy

Re: "Still the same old… but also too obscure… and besides…”

Hi Guys,

A big thankyou to “Vezzolf” for his prompt reply to my swift response…

It seems however that in spite of our “many” releases they are still too stale for our friend… Not only that but also a wee bit “too obscure in subject matter” for him. Oh well, into every life a little rain must fall…

I suppose the air war over Europe is a tad too obscure for some… Or was it the Battle of Arnhem in Holland (where’s Holland?)

Maybe it was those previously unheard of U.S. Dragoons fighting those pesky Commanches in pre Civil War America.

Definitely it had to be those Austrian Light Horse battling their way into Beersheba in 1917 (what were Austrians doing in Palestine at that time anyway?)

All joking aside… I do appreciate my friend that, at least, you are looking favourably at our upcoming Tiger and our Russian Cossacks (not too obscure I hope).

But, I think the truth of the matter is our friend and his collecting habits are moving elsewhere… and that’s fine by me. Tastes and opinions (mine included) constantly move, alter, develop and change… C’est la vie. I thankyou for buying from us in the past and wish you all success and happiness in the future with whomsoever you choose to collect… Have fun!

Best wishes and happy collecting from still the same old,
Andy C.

P.S. By the by… “more realism” is also, as you rightly say, a matter of opinion.

Re: “Same old… Same old”

Oh .. I forgot to say .. Please

so, any chance we get the Despatches before, rather than after the weedend ? Am sure there's something nice coming our way ;)

Much appreciated & looked forward to.

Re: “Same old… Same old”

Hi Guys,

Re our old pal Vezzolf’s comments about K&C producing the “same old… same old”…

Yeah, I suppose he’s right! In the last six months, among other things, K&C has produced

1. The U.S. Navy Stream Launch with a whole bunch of “Shanghai” Marines.
2. French Foot Artillery in action.
3. An all-new 105 field gun and assorted GI’s manning it.
4. Chapter Two of “The Real West” with more U.S. Dragoons and Commanches fighting.
5. A P51B Mustang, Quonset Hut and nice little gathering of US Airmen and Pilots.
6. The Kriegsmarine “SEEHUND” and field tractor plus naval figures and even a BMW Sports car!
7. French First World War Poilus marching off to war plus those 3 little vignettes of soldiers, wives and girlfriends.
8. All-new airborne Paras… Brits and Americans.
9. An ME.108 “Rommel’s Desert Taxi”
10. A nice little bunch of Coassacks—mounted and dismounted.

Yes, I can definitely see lots of the “same old… same old”.

In a few days you guys are going to see a whole lot more… But, as I’ve said on another post that is neither “not good enough” for some people or as they prefer to say “the same old… same old”.

Best wishes and happy collecting from the same old…
Andy C.
Andy, I think your doing a terrific job and you offer a fair amount of variety. Keep up the good work!

So how is that "Same Old - Same Old" ??

Sometimes - your posts and thoughts are difficult to follow ?

Re: “Same old… Same old”

With this debate mirroing the one last despatches and Andy being on here I would like to know and, can agree with the 'same old same old' to an extent.

Why not more field poses and, less marching at attention and, saluting. Having been in the field myself it just does not happen as much as we get from what is always called the best maker in the business.

I like the stuff but, these poses get me down especially the SS units where there was less saluting than is seem in prose.

Last month and excellent panzer ace but, personality officer saluting why? not needed. I know everybody cannot be pleased all the time but, I can see why people say same old same old or, comment on the strictness of poses being released.

I have a feeling we will be returning to the deserts this forthcoming month but, hopefully, we will not be seeing to much saluting.

No problem Andy.....I have and still enjoy many of your products; heck most of what I own is 80% king and country....but I'm sure you are well aware that Figarti and First Legion have really put out some superb AFV's and may have "at least for now" taken a lead position in that regard......And I'm sure I will like the NewTiger you are soon releasing....I have it on pre-order....Thank you again and best regards Vezzolf

Frank,
All due respect, when you say "lead position", I assume you mean for your tastes? I am going out on a limb here (by the way, Rick at Figarti is one of my favorite people in the Toy Soldier world along with Andy, Richard and Ken at Britains and many more), but Figarti sells 100 units max of an item and they don't always sell out, I dont know how much FL sells, but I will bet my life's savings that Andy and K&C still sell more units than anyone and would be considered in the "Lead Position" regardless of figures or vehicles, etc.

I think that is common sense, they are the market leader.

Re: “Same old… Same old”

If you are talking market share, yes correct....K/C is still the leader....but I believe that Figarti has "really stepped up the pace" in regards to WWII AFV's...and First legion is right there with FL figures presenting a strong challenge to K/C's figures.........This is the direction I think I see the hobby moving.....I therefore am in the process of re-directing at least some of my old collecting habits...... it is impossible to collect multiple versions of all WWII manufacturers; therefore most of us will need to prioritize our purchases and re-direct our collections somewhat....unless of course you have un-limited funds....Then you can collect them all :)

Ok, understand. I still think Figarti and FL are for niche or extremely educated (what I mean by that is the sophisticated collectors who scour the internet and this forum, etc.) collectors, the general worldwide collectors at shows/going to hobby shops, etc are buying K&C and Britains. I am not sure how much of that is changing. Also, the niche collectors are still buying a lot of K&C and Britains too!

I think there is a place for everyone in the hobby, but I also think the market kings are firmly in place right now and it would take large missteps for that to change IMO.
